Is the Rubicon X worth the extra money and complexity over the standard Rubicon?

Do you ever need full time AWD in south Florida? That money buys a nice lift and gets you started on wheels and tires.

I am taking delivery of a 2024 Rubicon X in a few days and really wanted the full time 4wd but it wasn't an option with an MT. I intend for this to be only my second and last new vehicle. They put the select track on the wrangler 392 pushing way more horsepower through than what we have. I wouldn't worry about it being more problematic than some of the other new gizmos on these things and it will probably come in handy some day.

@ecidiego ....

I know towing 6k with any Gladiator is questionable at best but I'm really not towing in the full sense of the word. It's like 8 miles (I said 10 originally) in Key Largo FL on a flat 50mph 4 lane road with one traffic light about 3 blocks from the marina. That's it. So really the Mojave would work too but I was just thinking about adding a bit of safety factor going with the 7k towing. Maybe a bit anal on my part.

In the process of getting a 2024 Gladiator to give the 2016 Wrangler some company while they have the 20% off MSRP. Waited until end of the month (2 more days) to hopefully get the best deal. I found a Rubi with every option I wanted (steel bumper, navigation for wife and active safety group) for about 42k. The Rubi X is about 6k more but has the leather and power seats and full time 4x4 along with some other stuff that I don't care about. I am just concerned about the full time 4x4 since I keep my vehicles a long time and the full time system adds more complexity. Any thoughts?
If you do not need those other options, save the $6k for mods or a cheaper payment.

To piggyback on what Jefe1018 stated, I wouldn't spend the extra on full-time 4x4 unless I lived in an area where I had to deal with snow-covered roads on a regular basis.

Living in Miami, no 4X4 full time required. I'm in Colorado and wouldn't buy a Jeep without it. I will say that Jeep has had full time 4WD systems for years so it's probably about as reliable as anything "Jeep"...I have a 2021 Gladiator with 4WD Auto and its 100% awesome.

@Gvsukids ...
Thank you. I guess I shouldn't worry about the full-time 4x4 long term. As I mentioned, I keep things a long time (I have a rare 2016 Willys Wrangler Unlimited with half doors and a '99 TJ which wife says has to go ... can't park 3 Jeeps here). Maybe go back and get another thousand or so off and then decide.
Besides my 23 Gladiator - We have a 2015 Grand Cherokee with full-time 4x4. This winter hasn't been bad, but I feel more relaxed know my wive dives it and has that stability. I kind of wish my Gladiator had that transfer case, but it wasn't an option for mine.

Also of note - both jeeps are diesels

For me. Full time in Florida. But. I sometimes travel. Looking forward to having auto 4wd in Tenn next Thanksgiving. Mountains and icy roads are easier to get up with auto 4wd (comparing to the in laws grand cherokee) trying to time shifting into out of 4 hi In my old sport was not fun. As ice spots are always in shadowy areas on the road up the mountain.

I have a 2024 Gladiator Rubicon X the only difference I can find is the transmission. It is not full time 4X4 it is an option on the shifter.
I also just purchased a 2024 Gladiator Rubicon, yes I have 2, this one it is not an X,
There is 2K difference in MSRP both have electric seats LOVE IT.

The X has several more options I would not pay the difference for a X , but I sure like having everything the X has, It is what I would order if I did so except the transmission.

Towing a heavy trailer might be OK with stock tires, but my son was not happy towing a 5000 pound travel trailer with 37 inch tires. Fortunately for him, I can setup new gears, so I swapped to 5:38 gears. Tons better, but he still wants more power.

Miami, you have to ask yourself if the following is worth $6K to you...we have our opinions, but it's your money and ultimately your vehicle. This is the delta from a standard Rubicon to a standard Rubicon X:
  • 12-way power adjustable front seats
  • 12.3-inch digital touchscreen with navigation
  • Nine-speaker premium Alpine audio system
  • Integrated Bluetooth speaker
  • Nappa leather seats
  • Heated seats and steering wheel
  • ParkSense rear park-assist system
  • Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection
  • Steel front bumper
  • Integrated front off-road camera
  • Body-color fender flares
  • Body-color hardtop with headliner
  • Rock-Trac full-time transfer case

Do it bro. I got mine in Kendal 3 weeks ago and couldn't be happier.
