I’ve had my truck since 2021 and I haven’t ever had to use the spare. Went to lower it today and I am either missing the mark by a mile or…

Is the plastic thing a guide for the rod to help lowering the tire? What’s the secret? All of the videos show it to be pretty straight forward.

Three rods connected together. Slide in with tailgate closed, through the plastic guide, and get the square tube seated. Then rotate counterclockwise to lower. That’s it.

Edit: And use the lug wrench with the square hole in it for the t handle.

Only had to use mine once, but if I remember correctly, you have to angle that rod to connect to the white guide.

Did you buy yours used? It looks like there might be a locking spare kit installed.

Weird. I installed a locking spare kit in mine and essentially it adds a small lug with a pattered end, that goes over the square fitting.

If you don't have the locking section in the vehicle, you may be able to remove that piece from the lowering mechanism and return it to stock. Or, just buy and install a new one.

Ask the selling dealer about it. The locks might all be the same pattern, and they may have an extra lying around somewhere.

They have unique patterns. Or rather, there are multiple patterns. They’re not all the same. I hope the key is in the Jeep somewhere. It’ll look like the upper piece in my picture above.

You probably are, but it might not be your fault this time.
