If you don't have the key lock. You can remove that spare lock with a strong magnet.

PSA for those of you who live where there is ice, snow and salt and are new to pick up trucks. You want to drop the spare inspect and clean it once a year. That works the little crane, and it forces you to get rid of the wheel eating caked salt crud that accumulates on the top of the wheel.

The alternative is join AAA and keep your card and their number handy for when you need the spare.

Or do five way rotations. Mine gets used ever 5k miles.

Even if you’re not using the spare for rotations, just make it something you do each oil change. Just lower it to the ground and back up.

Unfortunately, ours has a steel wheel spare.

Once a year, at oil changes, on your birthday, or anything else that reminds you to work the spare mechanism is all that matters.

I back up the winch cable retention with a chain around the crossmember.

I believe the guide is the alignment notch on the bumper.
