I don’t know if anyone can help me with some information but I’m all out
Of options and just about ready to bail on a Gladiator purchase.
I went to my Jeep
Dealer the beginning of April and sat down and built a Gladiator with him because nobody had a manual transmission with the trim and options I wanted. So despite the pandemic, and the plants opening back up, I knew this would take a while. However, it’s been two months and I’ve contacted Chrysler. My Jeep order hasn’t even begun the process, let alone generated a window sticker. Others who have purchased Jeeps AFTER I did already have theirs built and/or at least have a build and window sticker. Any clue why I’m not getting anywhere with my order? Thanks in advance!

My best guess, the manual transmission is holding you back.

With the open recall on them and not enough parts available to handle the recall, I doubt they're going to put more of them out there.

Manual transmission are still on stop sale order for the recall. Read-up on the recall and make sure you still want that manual trans.

I heard there was a recall, so I inquired to the dealer about it and, of course, he “hadn’t heard of a recall”. So two months pass and I knew you guys would know. Thank you. I’m so bummed. I won’t drive an automatic. I don’t care about the towing. I want a 5 speed. So I guess I’ll be waiting till
2021. This SUCKS. Does this mean my dealer is not very good at what he does? How could he “not know”?

The Recall is a notification to the Service side, although Sales should be aware of it. If they have not sold any with a Manual Transmission, they are less likely to be aware of the Recall. Salesman not knowing about the Stop Sale is poor communication inside the dealership, but Manual Transmissions are not a huge seller. If you want a Manual, it will require patience.

The Automatic that Jeep puts in the Gladiator is a great transmission. I learned on a Manual very young and drove one for the first 17 of my 42 driving years. I have no plans to buy one ever again.

If I were you I would not bail yet. I ordered a MT Overland in mid-March, and only learned this week that it is finally scheduled for assembly the week of July 6. There is at least one forum member who ordered a MT in early May who also has learned his is going to be assembled starting July 6. It seems Jeep was waiting to do a group of manuals together. I would bet yout April order will be in the same group.

That said, it has proven to be not so easy to get any real info out of Jeep for most of us that have been waiting. JeepCares did actually care, and was able to request Customer Service to get the build date to me. You might try as well. Thank you JeepCares!!

And I would add, if you know yourself and really want a manual, don't settle.

I had ordered a Rubicon with a manual transmission in November. Come Feb I cancelled it because of the delay and the Mojave came out and it was the same price. I got a letter from Jeep in late April that they were still working on the jeep but it had not started build yet (but had a VIN). Called Jeep directly to discuss - the dealer had not told them of the cancelation. Was told that there is a facility in Ohio that was closed for a while so they are not building, but were going to start back up - agree with Martin that you may be in the July build now that the facility is opening? I still want to order one (now, a Mojave) but can’t get a dealer to do it for me just yet. I’m sticking to my guns though with a manual transmission.

The Jeep Toledo (Ohio) Complex builds all the Wranglers and Gladiators. It closed mid-March and reopened May 18, According to one member who has contacts inside the plant, they have made it to about 70% of pre-shutdown production levels.

Is extremely appreciated!

Here’s to the manual! A dyeing breed! I’ll hold out for the build. This will be my third manual Jeep and wouldn’t have it any other way :)

Manual driving is such a great experience for me, I’ll hang in there. I know I’ll regret an automatic. So will my wallet when it’s time for brakes and trans issues!

I'm just curious for the manual tranny lovers, I get it. But have you read the recall? The pressure plate is literally bursting into flames, leaving vehicles disabled and in some case on fire. FCA has published no resolution for this issue. Are you just assuming they get it fixed??

Chronology:

• On November 27, 2019, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Vehicle Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“VSRC”) the organization opened an investigation as a result of customer inputs for fire incidents on 2018-2020 MY Jeep Wrangler and the 2020 MY Jeep Gladiator vehicles.

• On December 10, 2019, FCA US VSRC investigators and FCA US Powertrain engineers traveled to the FCA US Toledo assembly plant to study the transmission and clutch assembly process.

• On December 17, 2019, FCA US VSRC conducted a scene examination of a vehicle fire that appeared to be related to the transmission.

• On January 22, 2020, FCA US VSRC reviewed a warranty returned transmission and clutch with catastrophic damage.

• On February 5, 2020, FCA US VSRC Materials Engineering Lab completed an analysis of the transmission components and determined the clutch pressure plate reached 1100-degrees Celsius demonstrating the pressure plate is a competent ignition source. The supplier duplicated the failed pressure plate demonstrating the pressure plate was not a fire effect.

• In early February 2020, FCA US VSRC conducted packaging studies and reviewed supplier records to understand the history of the transmission and clutch failures.

• On February 10, 2020, the clutch supplier conducted testing to reproduce pressure plate failure due to exposure to high heat.

• As of February 20, 2020, FCA US is aware of 13 CAIRS and 13 field reports related to this issue.

• As of February 20, 2020, FCA US is aware of 35 warranty claims related to this issue.

• As of February 20, 2020, FCA US is aware of one minor injury related to this issue.

• On February 25, 2020, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.

• The remedy for this recall is still under development.

Your chronology goes through February. It is now June.

First, the chronology that is important to me is that FCA stopped taking orders for MT about the time the recall was made public, then resumed taking orders several weeks later. So, yes, I do assume they have a fix.

Second, as your chronology shows, only a small number of Gladiators actually had their pressure plates "literally bursting into flames". Perhaps there are more by now, but you would think some forum members would have let us know if they had it happen to them or someone they know.

Third, there actually have been members who reported parts being replaced in their Gladiators from this recall, so there is something being done by FCA, even if the complete remedy is still under development. But we don't know.

So, yes, I want a manual transmission Gladiator. Jeep has always sold MT versions of CJs and Wranglers, and I expect they will continue that for at least the next few years. Which means they are going to solve the problem, if they have not already.
