My wife has had people try to scam her with Zelle numerous times when she sells on FB. Explain to them you aren't comfortable with Zelle and if they wont accept anything else -alarm bells-...
How do you get scammed with Zelle if you are the recipient?

The convenience of Zelle is the transfer is instant.

The drawback to Zelle is there is no recourse for recovery.

PayPal would be a better option.

I always use PayPal Goods & Services. This way you get coverage if you have problems with whatever you bought. Friends & Family is great because there's no charges, but no protection either. If they complain about Paypal's fees, I add 3% to cover anything incurred by the seller.

There has been some articles about issues around zelle. I would be hesitant to use it as well.

Zelle works as intended. I've never had any issues with it. You do have to be careful and make sure it is setup correctly, and that money is going where you want it to. It was never meant for, and should not be used for purchasing anything. It's great for moving money between friends, family, and your own bank accounts.

I used PayPal for years when selling things. I have recently switched to in person / cash transactions. When PayPal started tracking sales and you now have to pay income tax on sales after you reach $600.00 in sales, I quit using them. The only way around that is to have receipts for whatever you are selling (who keeps them for years??) and you only pay income tax on your profit. I don't like paying taxes twice. I have tried suggesting using "Family and Friends" for sales, but that only resulted in people calling me a scammer. I know I have lost many sales because of distance between me and a potential customer, but I don't see any other way around it if I want to avoid paying income tax twice.
