It's a plug in hybrid you could just charge it through the gas engine and never plug it in. Or you ha solar system and use the sun for charging lol. for me personally range matters as well as power but it would be hard to not get the 392 if both were offered. Much simpler and probably long term reliable. Just the range...
Wasn't aware the engine charges the electric battery. Tells you how much I know and interested in electric vehicles.

All indications are that the 4xe system will be heavier than the diesel = even less payload & they never address towing anything with the hybrid either.
Good questions. However, a lot of people (such as myself) buy a pickup for the utility of the bed. I'll never get close to maxing out payload or trailering capacity, so if a "4xe Gladiator" had a little less towing and little less payload capacity, that would be just fine. I would think that anyone anticipating maxing out either of those probably is looking at a diesel anyway.

Anyone actually know how much one would spend in Energy to charge this thing. Just wondering if the electricity bill will be higher than the gas bill.
on my pacifica, a Gasoline mile costs twice what an electricity mile costs based on my Wisconsin gasoline and electricity costs.

the Pacifica hybrid is rated at ZERO towing.....i think FCA was just lazy and didn't want to warranty nor test anything for towing,(people have put on a tow hitch from a gas version with success, but......i don't think anybody actually knows if its detrimental to powertrain) but i assume for the JL and JT they will have tested it thoroughly. The 4xe as I recall is only a 4cylinder hybrid. the pacifica uses a pentastar v6 variant. I assume JT will get similar.

i'm in the same boat as you, I want a pickup for all my light bed hauling needs, the occasional 2,000-4,000 lb towing.

The most i've ever towed with a vehicle i've owned was 4500 lbs of crushed granite. I did that once in my 21 years of driving. Would it be nice to haul 7000 lbs and be hybrid....SURE, but unlikely. For the tasks that i have to haul that much, my buddy got a 1500 Ram work truck. =)

My theory is it’s like TVs. they have the end game and work backwards in incremental steps from there milking the market along the way ?

That’s fine, but 800# payload capacity is only ~4 people +a cooler & you’re maxed out...

Understood. But for me, that would be fine. If I was anticipating regularly carrying 4 large-ish* people AND a trailer, I'd be looking at a full size pickup, not a mid size.

*The 4 people I am likely to be carrying are not going to come anywhere near to an 800# weight limit. And even that would be infrequently, most often just 2-3 people. And my trailers are small camping trailers and such... Often 2000# and likely never more than 3000#. I'd never even think about buying a mid-size truck for 4 "semi-big" people and towing even medium sized boats and travel trailers of over 4000#. There is not much price difference between mid and full size trucks, and even the cheapest full size F150 is going to be more adept at those kinds of payload/trailer # numbers than a JT, and would be a much better tool for the job, in my opinion.

Perhaps I am alone in those use cases, but my conversations lead me to think they are not uncommon amongst mid-size buyers.

Right, I believe all this will be coming in future models of the gladiator. All the more reason to buy a current one, run up 100k on it and still trade it for incredible value for a hemi Mojave in the future. At least that's my plan!
OOOOH boy, that sounds like my plan now too!!!
