I hope that the 2 trim level is just CNN fake news:fingerscrossed:

If not I think it will be a sport type and a Rubicon type trim level. I also don't agree that the JL Sport has been dumbed down. Many people like to build there own rig. What better way to do so than with a low budget base model?
I would hope the (2) Trim rumor is also fake, as it would limit the customer base, and the more customers the better for the vehicle long term.

I forgot about the Sport Mopar build, but the price on that was at least Rubicon money after all the Mopar Parts were added. They didn't have a single stock sport anywhere at the show. People are still trying to find goo photos of the cloth interior on the JL forum.

I get Sports are a good "build your own" platform, but basics like LED lighting are not even options for it which makes me think Jeep is pushing people out of them. Also there was a rumor (?) that some engine options wont be offered on the Sport/Sport .

Based on the invoice pricing now out I was able to get an idea of what I can expect to spend on the JTUR works out like this:

Jeep Gladiator JL MSRP Release - JT Should Be Similar Screen Shot 2017-12-19 at 5.43.39 PM

NOTE: This is assuming I can get one for 5% below invoice (like the Koons Group Buy) Ouch.

Crap ... just realized I used the Invoice Price for the 2-Door not the 4. Updated the post now with the 4-Door Rubi Invoice price, which makes it worst.

$50K truck @ 5% below invoice. Thats kind of crazy. Not too far off the AEV Brute Prices lol

Still need to add in MOPAR Lift, 37" tires and aftermarket wheels.

My JL Rubi build came to $53,770 (added just about everything), I am also figuring $4k for diesel option. But don't feel a need to add scrambler premium $$ .... So call it 58K before TTL. Figure $53-$55 for a deal..... But I am not so sure Gladiator pricing is going to be on-par with Wrangler. it's an unproven model at this point.

I just used Toyota's online builder and priced a similarly equipped 2018 Tacoma TRD Pro for ~$45k. Is that a fair comparison or not really apples to apples? Can FCA get away with $5k more than a top of the line Tacoma?

I think the TRD Off-Road may be a little closer to apples to apples only because the TRD Pro is largely cosmetic and geared towards the Pre-Runner crowd. With a "similarly" equipped TRD Off-Road I can build for less than 40K. It is tough though because no matter what its not going to be apples to apples. To me the Tacoma TRDs owner and potential owners are the segment that the Jeep Gladiator is after. We see a lot of overland/expedition setups on the Tacoma and that is what I personally see the Gladiator owners doing with the vehicle. I was going to plan on getting a Tacoma myself until the rumors of the JLT were confirmed. I love my Jeep, but I really need a box on the back for the things I use it for.

Yes and no. The TRD Pro is the Tacoma's top of the line model which is similar to the Rubicon so I think its a good thing to look at pricing wise as its Toyota's most expensive Tacoma. With that said my build that I posted is using INVOICE pricing, not MSRP. So If I was using MSRP it would be another $5K for a total cost of around $57K

However I do think there is room to save a little money on options over the JL. For example the Hardtop should not cost as much since your only getting 50% of the hardtop vs the JL. Also there is a chance that the $2K for the auto is included in diesel pricing of $4k, however I kept it in as the Grand Cherokee use to charge $6K for the diesel option (don't know if thats still the case). And there is an option that the $2k premium over the JL isnt there.

Even with those discounts its still going to put the a diesel JL well into the mid 50s which is roughly $10K more then the Tacoma. If you pull out the diesel its still $4k more then the Tacoma which is already expensive for mid-size truck.

I just built a pretty decked out Chevy Colorado ZR2 and it came to $48k.... so I wouldn’t be surprised to see JT into the mid $50k’s

And if it does cost anywhere near a Tacoma that has a reputation for reliability, this will be a total flop and just canabalize sales of Wranglers while remaining with an equal market share overall. 50 freaking grand, are you serious? No thanks. I don’t care how good it is. They better hit a sweet spot in this mid 30k range or this thing is DOA. Also not happy with the crappy V6 power output in a truck. 260 ft/lbs ain’t gonna cut it. Maybe they will up the output. Hearing the 4 Turbo is out for the truck only leaves the diesel. 6k for that is a hefty choice at this price point.
