Prices that are still AWOL:
  • Cost of 2.0L
  • One-Touch Power Sliding Soft Top (4 door Sahara and Rubicon only)

Previous Post Below:

Since there are not going to be any 2-door Gladiators we can cross those prices out. And if the rumor is true there will only be (2) Trim levels on the Gladiator, which my bets are on them being only a Sahara and Rubicon based trim since they dumbed down the JL Sports so much (basically very little options). I would also assume there will be at least a $1,500 cost over the JL for the scrambler which would make pricing like this:

  • Trim A-- $38,845
  • Trim B -- $41,995
* Above prices do not include $1,195 destination charge.

Thoughts?????

I think their will be a Gladiator Sport (Base) for Fleet. It will be FCA's answer to the mid-size truck fleet marketing towards GM, Nissan, and Toyota base/fleet models. But the fact it's convertible would be the only reason there would not be a fleet model Gladiator, unless they put a stationary roof on it. I don't see why a company would purchase a fleet of convertible trucks. Plus a stationary top might cost less than the removable tops. But a removable bed could be an option for utility bed or storage box.....or bed campers.
The other (premium) trim, I think will be a mix of Sahara and Rubicon. After all the review videos that was posted today about the JL & JLU, I think the upper Gladiator will get the 4-Auto like the Sahara has because the bed causes the rear end to be too light while in 2WD, and the 4-Auto will throw the power forward in wet slick conditions. I have a 2WD F-150 non-limited slip rear end and it sucks in the rain. If that 4-Auto does what it says would be nice for those conditions, being that the Gladiator will have no weight over the bed. Plus if the Gladiator's rear axle has limited slip, that will help too. Anyways back to why I think the upper trim of the Gladiator will have both Sahara and Rubicon trim combined.
Option to have 4-Auto from Sahara
Option to have 3.73 or 4.10 axles from Rubicon.
And the Sport/Base will only have the 3.45.
(According to the tow charts posted on Oct 18th)
FCA needs a mid-size truck and Fiat was trying to get their small truck (Toro) with the RAM logo put on it. But I think the mid-size North American market answer will be the Gladiator from FCA.
Edit: yes I think the JT will be a little more than the JLU. Just a little, because of the extra labor/time it will be to reconfigure the bed & the Ram 1500 rear chassis and to manufacture the bed. Compare to just dropping a box body on to a frame like the JL & JLU. The JT will take a few more people (labor) to build which will cost exta money.

I think the Sahara gets left out, and there will be a base Sport ST and a Rubitron.

T for truck...

I wonder if they'll offer it the same way, with the soft top as standard, and the hard top optional. I say hard top standard for the truck, and dual top as optional.

So add $2,000 for the 8-speed automatic?

I thought the Sahara got left out too, but if you really look at how the JL is set up in the Sport / Sport S trim they really made it so no one would want it as a huge % of the options are left out and you simply can not equip the vehicle with it.

The previous rumors were that the JT would be marketed more upscale, so thats were my current thinking is that its more like a sahara and rubicon ish trim level set up. Also it would be weird to have such a huge gap, its like zero option choice or all the option choice and nothing in between.

I could see a Sahara based package with the Select track for those looking for a daily/recreational midsize pick up and then the Rubicon package for people looking for an offroad pick up (think Tacoma limited and TRD Pro).

I really dont understand why they are not offering all 4 levels, as the Tacoma has at least 4 trim level and I think the Colorado has 3. So with two they will lose on the group of buyers that got left out. The only thing I can think of is it will be (2) at launch and then MY20 or MY21 offer other trim levels. This would keep the first ones sold high in profits from the added on options.

and a Rubitron.
I like the sound of this. Rubtron, defender of the universe, a mighty truck, loved by good, feared by evil. There you go, FCA, your marketing is complete, though maybe only gen-Xers will get it and you'll probably be sued.

I believe we will see a true base model so they can have a competitive price comparison on paper. Premium could be similar to Rubicon and/or Toyota’s TRD packages.

Could also be people are just reading too much into the Base/Premium package details on the leaked docs.

It very could well be Sport/Sport S/etc. fall under "Base" and then "Sahara/Rubicon/etc." fall under "Premium." Just the details aren't hashed out enough as of yet, and there's enough crossover from a weight/options perspective to consolidate them in the initial documents.

I this is the most likely scenario. The current model designations are already a well-understood nomenclature, at least to Jeep owners and enthusiasts. Why introduce unnecessary confusion?

I also agree thinking there will be a base ("work truck") premium and a Rubitron (TRD Pro) like version

I hate to be "that guy" but I really don't see them have a base out of the gate. I really think Jeep has been aiming more and more upscale with each new model they put out and that the Gladiator will be more of a lifestyle vehicle then a fleet one. Also I don't think the removable top is fleet friendly and I think they will keep pushing their fleet customers to the Ram line up especially with the new 1500 coming out in 2019 as well.

With the JL they are not even marketing the Sport/Sport S. It was completely left out of the LA Autoshow as an example.

NOTE: this is assuming they only keep (2) trim levels, which I still don't understand considering all of its competitors have a lot more:

I doubt we'll see a base 2WD model in the low 20s. So compare to those in the market with only 4WD systems, and maybe throw in a HD suspension system as the JT's lower end entry. So entry level, will be around $33K, where the JL sport starts.

This is why I don't think you'll see this being popular with fleets, as they want cheap and no options. With the JT they will be forced to buy 4WD, a convertable top, and HD suspension.

Did I miss something? I was under the impression that the white JL on the rocks at the LA Auto Show was a Sport.

I hope that the 2 trim level is just CNN fake news:fingerscrossed:

If not I think it will be a sport type and a Rubicon type trim level. I also don't agree that the JL Sport has been dumbed down. Many people like to build there own rig. What better way to do so than with a low budget base model?
