Plus 1 for getting a jump pack. I got one for each family member a few years ago and they have helped tremendiously.

Here’s Project Farm’s review of the best…

Be careful doing that - could lead to a big fuse going south. Not likely, but can happen.

Anyway, when jump starting other vehicles, you need to connect and then sit back and relax for a couple of minutes. I'd even give the Jeep throttle a bit of a boost to let the charging system on the Jeep work up to capacity.
IF those were dead batteries, you can't just connect and get in and hit the starter. They'll draw down the donor vehicle's electric system and it may take some time to get enough back into the dead batteries to allow high enough voltage for the dead car to crank..

Too may connect cables, get in and hit the key and wonder why it won't work.
Sit back and relax, let the donor vehicle's charging system build up voltage at the dead vehicle for a while - again, boost the donor vehicle's engine speed a bit.

Sounds like you did all of that, so I suspect it's more of a problem with the car - shorted battery, or dead starter and not a battery issue.

I'll admit, I probably could have waited longer although I also didn't just connect, try, then immediately give up. This morning, I probably kept it connected for a total of 5 min.

well if both batteries are dead and we only connect to the accessory battery and not the starter battery it might not pass the charge on to the starter battery. I think the light use a slow draw and the starter uses a large burst of amperage. I find it odd you had 2 civics in 24 hours asking you for a jump. Do stranded ladies often ask you for help? Maybe they pulled the starter fuse just to talk to you?

I promise this has not gone overlooked. I can go months/years without jumpstarting anyone. then all of a sudden 2 within 4 days and on similar cars. I'm going to go play the lotto.

I too like to help jump start vehicles. But I never use my own. I always carry a battery jump starter in my truck. And I have one in my wife's van as well. Never a need for pulling up vehicles or pulling out cables.
I couldn't agree with this more.

I always advocate against connecting your vehicle directly to another one that's got some kind of issue. You never know what it is, and you don't want some freak occurrence to end up damaging yours. Sure, 99% of the time it's benign, but that 1% you want to stay away from.

Plus remember that smart alternators these days don't put out more juice as you rev, they're controlled, so if they don't sense a need for more juice they'll just sit at a lower level to maintain your system, not help charge someone else's.

Jump packs are just smart, cheap insurance. Not only to protect you from the unknowns of another vehicle, but good insurance for yourself so you can give yourself a jump in the odd case you drain your own battery.

Not to mention how much simpler they are to use. It's truly a win-win-win.

I'll never go back to cables.

Good luck finding answer. youtube is always a good place to start.
Oh I went digging into YouTube. I thought maybe it was a common problem (given how often I've seen it now). but I couldn't find anything that really highlighted a common issue. I guess in the end its just chance.

As for not using your own equipment, is there risk? Or is it just out of convenience?

I installed a terminal that my cables plug into. I don't have to pop my hood. makes things pretty simple and quick.

Dude totally misread their intentions

Did you just put this together or did you actually find a damsel in distress Infront of a Honda by coincidence?

To be fair, the first girl had a young guy in the car with Her (same age as her). Tell me why this kid didn't get off his phone to help? At least open the damn hood.

I'm too nice sometimes.

Not sure if that's the video I saw several months ago or not, but I was rather surprised by what their best pack ended up being, and I have to say - their methods were quite good - even starting a diesel tractor. They ended up with a fair, quality set of tests.

If you have quality jumper cables, properly/well connected, the dead battery on the other end will draw down your own system voltage to the point it will try to keep up. It will sense a big drain coming out through the IBS and kick up as needed to try to maintain the voltage.

its a Honda, they are on the side of the road everywhere. Did it have a trunk scoop, springs cut in half to lower it and a muffler that sounds like a dog sneezing?

NOCO makes a nice jump box. Well, they make nice battery chargers too.

I use their GB70 jump box linked below. The battery life is awesome. It can sit for several months and still have enough capacity to start a big motor.
