So here is my situation. I ordered the new 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon with all the options except the wireless Bluetooth speaker. I get the Jeep and I do have everything except the Keyless Enter-N-Go Passive Entry System (You know that feature where you can unlock the vehicle just by grabbing the door handle.). Somehow the blame is on me for not ordering it. Thank you dealership.

My question is can this system be installed at the dealership or any reputable Jeep shop? I would think that all it would take is just swapping out door handles. I think that the wiring should be there, i cant see the manufacturing making special wire harness just to leave out the passive system. I would think all it would take is for them to plug it in and possible reprogram or get new key fobs, possible do something with the computer.

So if anybody positively knows this answer please let me know.

Please and Thank You,

Have you checked with your dealership service department?

No, there's more to it than just the door handles. Someone on the JL forums tried to get it done and got all the parts, but couldn't get the dealer to add the sales code to his BCM so it wouldn't work. I really hope there's a solution for this in the future

There are after market passive entry products available. The Directed Electronics 2102T looks good. It is one feature my other car has that I wish was on my Rubicon.

Same here - I am SURE, in fact I KNOW we talked about it because my wife said good - it will be like her GC instead of trying to pull a 5 pound 10 square inch fob out of your pocket to unlock. Bummer - it doesn't have it and yet I can hear my wife and I talking about it - we wanted that. Didn't get it. So now have to fumble with the stupid humungous fob all the time.
I have to dig through my paperwork - when she saw that option it was like yeah, want that. Didn't get it.

You'll have to go back and read your posts - you probably mentioned it at some point.

So what is BCM? Otherwise it can be done?

I THOUGHT we had ordered the passive entry on our order, we talked about it, my wife even said "good, like my Jeep" (she has a Grand Cherokee) and we discussed it and then in the end after the order was placed and the vehicle in the build process - I check and triple check and it's rather confusing when all of the safety and convenience stuff is listed - you have to really dig to see what is NOT in there. So something we really really wanted isn't on this Jeep. I'm going to discuss with our dealer and see what they say. My wife said "get it added" so..... who likes digging out that clunky 5 pound heavy piece just to unlock doors?

I assume it's something that CAN be added - unless the BCM can't be modified? Or is it they WON't modify it?
Difference between can't and won't, can but refuse to.

So the dealership has gotten back to me. They cant help me out via a factory way. But has offered me a way to have a keyless entry system via bluetooth using my phone. So they say they can install or plug some unit into my Gladiator that will unlock my doors using the bluetooth on my phone. This was a sad blow but at least there is a solution. I will post more about this unit.

Yeah, download a uconnect app and you can check your vehicle status, fuel level, tire pressure and more. It even has a remote screen so you can lock, unlock and start the vehicle. BUT - it is NOT passive. You still must grab your phone, unlock it, open the uconnect app and touch the screen to unlock it.
No install needed other than an app on your phone.
This isn't bluetooth, however - it's an app and doesn't use bluetooth otherwise it wouldn't work from inside my house LOL

Now there MAY be another way where it detects your phone's bluetooth and unlocks the doors when you approach it with your phone - IF that is the case I really want to know it!!

I asked around and got the scoop from the dealer's electronics person - at this time there is no way to add passive entry to the BCM/electronics. The parts are not cheap - but you can buy all the parts you want, "at this time there is no way to modify the Jeep to accept it" was the final word I got.
If there is something that detects your phone - I'm all ears........ I pretty much always have my phone with me and it's already setup with bluetooth.

I'd be interested to see what can be done and if it can be used for the tailgate. I have the option on mine, but would like a solution for the gate.

There most likely won't be a solution for the tail gate because that is unlocked AFTER you touch and pull the front door handles on one equipped with passive unlock. Even with the fob you have to give it two presses - one for driver/front, the other for back/tailgate.
There's no sensor back there and bluetooth would unlock the front doors unless there's some way they can tie into the built-in jeep security, the BCM, to also unlock the rear and tailgate. There's no technology back there.
They would have to configure it so that when you were within range it unlocked ALL locks at the same time.
These other solutions are add-in modules, not sure how they'd tie in and not trigger the alarms by unlocking the thing without going through the security to disable that as well!
If it was an older vehicle, say a 94 Jeep ZJ all they have to do is tie into the lock motor circuit and power it up.
With these they have to disable the security THEN unlock by powering the lock motors (some call them solenoids but they are really little motors that work so fast - at least on older vehicles with power locks, they appear as solenoids)
Whatever the 3rd party does they have to tie directly into the Jeep security - otherwise, well, it would be the same as trying to break in.

This will be interesting.
