That's what I was assuming. Nothing better than free money to a dealership.

Just got mine done today. Took 3 hrs. I did an oil change 2 weeks ago and they inspected and ordered the part. Dropped it this morning and they called me before lunch. They change the axle shaft.

Did you get a recall notice? My delivery date and VIN aren't far off of yours. All I got was a new seal.

Yes! I did got a recall notice in the mail. That's why I got them to check if its leaking when I had my oil change. I checked myself and its leaking a little. I thought they will just do the seal but just realized after that they change the shaft.

Just found this thread. I have a 2021 Mojave and found the right rear seal leaking. Took it to dealership and they’re replacing the whole axel per manufacturer recommendation. 40,000 miles. Daily driver. Parts supposed to be here in WV in a week. Hope so. Have upcoming trip.

I've had a leaking right rear for over 6 months now, with my '21 Gladiator daily driver. I've got just over 15k miles on it now, and it started happening around 12k or so. The dealer replaced the seal around May, when I came in for service. Then the recall came out, they inspected, and it was leaking again. At that point my drivetrain, assuming the axle, had started making some light ticking noises related to speed/rotation. My initial thought was a rock hung up somewhere that I couldn't find. It took over a month to get into the dealer for inspection, then they stated yep its the recall. During that month of waiting for my appointment, I started having random faults pop up for ABS, 4WD, and Traction Control. Parts are out until December '23. They stated keep driving it, but if things get worse bring it back in. When it started to sound like a manual transmission grinding gears, I went back right away. At that point they said we're still waiting on parts, and you need to get ahold of Jeep Care. Lots of phone calls to not my phone number, despite me giving them my #, and a couple of months later, and Jeep said there is nothing they can do to expedite because it is a recall issue. As the axle continues to fail, more systems in the jeep are faulting out; ABS, 4WD, Traction Control, Cruise Control, basically anything drive train related has an active fault. My traction control kicks in randomly, disabling all forward momentum as it attempts to "regain" control, despite me barely moving on drive pavement in a straight line. I am super frustrated that neither Jeep nor the dealer seem to be able to help me. And I am left wondering what else is falling apart due to this mechanical failure. I would assume the rear diff is taking a beating. Especially given all the metal on metal grinding I hear. Anyone have any advice on what parts I need to demand are inspected in addition to the normal recall? Or even additional actions I can take to get this dealt with?

Anybody have the issue with a 2020? I was about to change my diff fluid and notice the leak on the right rear of my 2020. I bought the Jeep used so I probably won’t get the notice has anybody had it done under warranty with out a notice? I’m going on Monday to have the dealer take a look at it.

I've not seen any leaks associated with a 2020 model - however, that doesn't mean it never happened.
What's the build date of your truck? it's in MDH format on a door sticker.
there will be something like MDH 062609 for example and that means June 26th 0900 hours.
Maybe you have a really late build 2020 when the changes by Dana that lead to the leaks took place? (speculation)

I’ll have to check later when I go out to the Jeep. I’m hoping Jeep will replace it but if not I’ll just upgrade to some chromoly shafts with new seals and bearings already in place

Just got back from the dealer and they are going to replace the whole axle under warranty on my 2020 they did say there was not a recall for the seal but power train warranty will cover it.

2022 Gladiator Mojave
Hi. I have 2022 gladiator Mojave. I did regear through local off road shop down in Orange County, CA about half a year ago. My axle seal started leaking recently from driver side rear and I am kinda jammed in between now.

I asked the shop if they could rework it under warranty because I think the regear job might have done damage to the seal(what I’m told by my mechanic friend in different state). And they denied that their job would cause the leak, also if it did, then I would see leak right after the job. I also think the regear job has caused no damage to the seal.

Now, if the leak is due to defect from factory(I heard mojaves leak alot lol), I can take it for manufacturer warranty. BUT I have regear job done on it and if dealer says it’s the cause, even if no one can prove or make connection between axle seal leak and regearing, they wouldn’t fix the issue for me.

I want to ask what people have done on their regeard gladiator for axle seal leak?

thank you.

I'm not saying that shop caused but their logic or reasons are flawed. Axles with seals must come out to regear. And damage could take time. Did they mess up? Can't tell without pulling the axle and looking. Most OEM factory optional leaks are on the right side.
An unwinnable fight. I'd buy bearing and seal and fix it. If it was virgin.......back to the dealer.

Both you and the shop are in a rough spot because they were trying to do you a favor saving a few bucks.

This is precisely why I include all bearings and seals in every gear job regardless of how many miles the vehicle has on it! I replace them and assume the liability so that I can warranty the whole job without question of who is responsible. I hate that it drives the cost up on the job and people go somewhere else at times, but it's the only way that I can reduce the liability and provide the best quality outcome.

That said, most likely the seals were on their way out anyway and since they made it 6mo after the job.......I seriously doubt the tech damaged your seals.....These trucks are known for this?
