My lease on my 2020 sport S is ending at the end of May. My residual value on the jeep is about 30k. I was planning on just paying it off and keeping it but I've been wanting a rubicon. I don't have a ton of aftermarket parts on it and could take off the wheels etc if I were to sell it. It just turned 37k miles.

I've seen some low and similar milage used gladiator rubicons for sale with all the bells and whistles and it's tempting to go that route. My dealer has new ones in stock but they are ALL manuals. They've been calling quite a bit trying to get me to wheel and deal.

Do you guys have any input on the best route to go to get into a rubicon and save some money?

I traveled 100 wish miles too. Worth it to find a good deal. I saved probably 11k over the local dealership.

I do not recommend the manual in the Gladiator or any with the 3.6.. It seems the JL/JT didn’t get reportedly better until the 3.6 was paired with the 8 speed transmission. …but I wanna manual where I can row my own…yeah yeah get a boat.

I can’t speak for the eight speed the Cubs with a 3.6 but all the reports have been good that I’ve heard. The 8HP75 that comes with a diesel motor has just been awesome. It matches the Diesel motor very well and aids in compression breaking. It’s very stout…as it should be since it’s the same transmission sitting behind the SRT 6.4 in cars and Durango. The auto behind Helcats…8HP95 is a different beast.

The manual has been plagued with issues and seems to be the source of fires and for what it’s worth, I believe it was canceled from future orders. So I’m not surprised that dealers are trying to get rid of the inventory.

Loved the manual in my TJ years ago, but the novelty wore off. As noted above, the auto’s today are just that good.

Have you checked CarGurus and other outlets in your area for the used Rubicon you want? I'm not completely familiar with lease trade ins or if it's only advantageous to work w your dealer.

No but I've checked cars dot com and facebook marketplace to give me an idea of what is out there.

Yea manual isn't an option for me. My current gladiator has it and I've been happy with it.

Autotrader is another good site to search.

I just picked up the Mojave last week. I had a grand cherokee years ago but this is my first JT. It's awesome.

If you aren't planning on buying your lease out don't let it expire, your trade in value is way more than your residual value.

I will buy it outright at the end of the lease if I don't work something out with the dealership. I feel like I can resell it myself and find a used rubicon from a private seller for a better deal than the dealership. The downside would be paying taxes twice for two vehicles.

you could go to jeep.com, build and price, check inventory. Change your zip code if you want to look farther away than the farthest option on the site.

One other option to look at in the used side of things is CarMax. I bought my 2021 Willys from them and have been happy. They have a 30 buy back guarantee if your not happy.

Thanks. Iam assuming it's not difficult to register an out of state vehicle. It definitely opens you up to a bigger pool of vehicles and the 30 day guarantee is good.
