Had a Schnauzer mix do the same thing. Would jump into the dirty clothes basket and make that her bed. They are just bonded to you and your scent.

It is kind of dangerous to pets. Back in the 1970's my mom dumped the laundry basket into the clothes washer, and we lost a cat. Found him, actually his body, a black Siamese cat named 'Darth", after the clothes were done. His brother was named 'Obi Wan' and it took Obi a while to adjust without his brother Darth around. The rest of the family too.

Mom took it the worst of all. And she never just willy nilly dumped the basket into the washer again.

Had a dog that used to watch the front loader washer when it ran. He watched the clothes go round and around.
