The one (Cassie) is a year old. She is a menace.

The second one (Cali - but lately I jokingly call her 'Bones') is 22 or 23 years old now. It runs together now, but I've had her since the day she was born. She's a bit disheveled and has ups and downs in her days, but its all good.

I love this pic! "Give me a treat or no trail for you!"
My girlfriend couldn’t believe it. We walked back over the bridge and she immediately started rolling around in the dirt. And that was after walking into the creek like she was strolling down the sidewalk. All while wearing her new Buccees hoodie(yes, she gets Buccees goodies also).

Got up super-early for the stitch removal and when back home, I decided to nap a bit. Koko climbed up on me, usually laying on my lap, this time he crawled up to my right shoulder and laid right across the area where the stitches came out from the incision made for where the battery/generator is implanted and purred like he's not purred in a while. I think he knew. Interesting he chose that spot, he could have been more comfortable elsewhere. Once in a while he looked over and sniffed my nose and mouth, then laid back and purred more. (Koko is our deaf Tonkinese)

The empathy of pets
is one of life's miracles.

My neighbor stopped his car at my mailbox
when I was picking up mail one day
and asked me about Spunky.

My foundling Rat Terrier
had been put down
due to degenerative myelopathy
two weeks earlier.

Then my neighbor confessed
that Spunky had been coming in
through Sadie's doggie door
going into their kitchen,
past Sadie's dog bowl
that she would stop and check,
and then continue through the living room,
down the hall and into his bedroom
and get onto the bed with his wife
who had become ill and was bedridden.

Spunky was never allowed
where our bedrooms were
or onto our beds.
Now... I regret it.

This is our lab Molly. Several years ago she started laying by our bedroom door. My wife worked late at the hospital several days a week as a nurse. Molly had a bed by my desk that she usually stayed in but began to stay close to my wife. A couple weeks after this began, my wife was diagnosed with a ver aggressive form of cancer. Molly stayed with her all the way through chemo and would seldom leave her side. Two years later my wife rang the bell symbolizing the successful end of her chemotherapy. A month later Molly seemed sluggish. Sleeping longer and not wanting to get up and walk. I took her to the vet. He diagnosed her with an invasive cancer that was beyond treatment. They know where they are needed and are truly selfless.

Cattle Dogs are not for the faint of heart or first time dog owner. There is no smarter AND hard headed breed in the world, not to mention they are fiercely protective of their human and that can cause "issues". And yet we love our Gracie (I call her the Kraken). If you say "ride in the truck" she'll be the first out the door and sitting next to the back door of my Gladiator waiting to be let in. She's impeccably trained and no leash required.

These are Ripley, a Belgian Malinois and Kimmy, some kind of terrier. Both are rescues.

A good looking malinois there, both extremes it looks like.
Back in summer I almost talked myself into getting a malinois. A friend of mine son's malinois had a litter. All but one was sold already. They definitely are a full time job not one to get on a whim. I really don’t have enough land to have one.

They are definitely a handful. We now live in a house with a decent backyard, but when I had my previous Mal, Xena, we lived at an apartment and HAD TO wake up at 4:30 before work for a 2 mile walk and a 1 mile walk after work. On weekends we used to take her to the mountains for off leash exercise. It was like having a part time job, but wouldn’t change it for the world. They are one of the most loyal and loving breeds ever!

This is the mother of the one I thought about getting back on summer... Damn I looked fat, recovery from emergency surgery and having five holes cut in my gut. Not Rosy the bird dog. Both of them were my coffee buddies when I was recovering. My friends Rottweiler of course jumped up on me when I got there almost ripped me open. He's just out of frame.
