looking for a lift to run 37s on a sport s max tow and keep the max tow rating . Is this possible ? Will like a RC 3.5” spacer lift keep the tow rating ?
For a mall crawler / dirt roads and daily driving . But gotta have those 37s
I have seen this same kind of question often and the short answer is any suspension, gearing or tire change COULD change the factory rated towing capacity.
1st we need to understand where these numbers come from. This is a spec SAE J2807 and it involves a series of tests for stability, braking and raw power to some degree and several other parameters. The cooling system test is performed on or in dyno duplicate of the "Davis Dam Grade" which you have to tow the weight up a 11.2 mile grade at a minimum speed of 40MPH on a 100 degree day.
This test was made to provide a yardstick to compare vehicles to each other.
I saw an article a while back about the gladiators tow rating and one of the biggest challenges for the engineers was cooling. That is why the grill shots are bigger. The rubicon is lower rated than the max tow because of tire size increasing engine load.
Real world is common sense rules. We all know the loading of a trailer greatly affects the towing vehicles handling and I look at the factory towing capacity as more of guideline than a commandment.
You can most likely easily exceed the factory limits on flat ground and be fine. Seen it done. That doesn't mean you can drive a bulldozer on a trailer and take off down the road grossing #30000 either
I once saw a 2wd S10 chevy dragging a 26 foot camper on a windy day. That guy had no sense.
