Never serviced a differential myself. I’m looking at front and rear differential covers. I want to add some armor without adding a skid plate.

What should I be doing besides pulling off cover, replacing with new cover, and fluid refill? I have seen some people using chemicals for cleaning out the pumpkin.

I’m going to go with the dana brand covers sold by north ridge. They come with new bolts.

I understand I can reuse the gaskets. Do those just need to be wiped down with a rag for cleaning before reinstall?

You don’t need to clean gears unless you’re seeing a lot of glitter. I use brake cleaner to spray the inside but need to make sure you get it all out whether you use compressed air or just a rag you need to clean it out

It is not hard to do , get the right fluid depending on if you have limited slip rear or not, I went with Mopar and dealer checked what was required. I put Dana covers on also , use the bottom fill hole to set your fill level, that is the same as factory cover. I used brake clean and a rag to wipe it out then wiped with alcohol afterwards. They are nice covers good choice….Jack

I just did my rear differential this week and replaced the cover with an ARB cover. Like everyone says, not hard but of course I made it harder than it had to be. Check your fasteners that come with the new cover once you have the old cover removed. The fasteners that came with my new cover were the wrong ones. Took me half an hour of struggling to figure that out. Quick trip to the hardware store sorted it out and I buttoned up the project in less than ten minutes.

Personally… I’d get new gaskets. Cheap insurance….
