Low Key Getting Trolled

My rage install was zero. After reading the threads on the issues and realizing Northridge wanted $100 for the install and I had to go to their shop to pick them up, I just had them slap them on. Took 30 minutes and if they busted a bolt....their problem, not mine. Yes. I feel like a total poser. I have done all kinds of wrenching. But the low cost, me being there, and not worrying about busting a body bolt on my 40K Jeep. Totally worth it.

My mother is 70 and 5ft 2. She liked them. You may want to put grip tape on them. They are powder coated and a bit slick on a snowy day. You can get the angle up or down. I went with the up.

They are heavy. Not cheap Chinese garbage. Made in America. Some people had trouble with the install due to red loctite on the front Jeep body mounts. But go slow and do it correctly.

How was rage install with those? I have Rubi take offs but haven’t installed them yet. I like the door ding protection

For $100 I’d have had them do it too. The more I read about drilling through wires or stripping bolts etc the more I think I’ll likely stay very close to stock. I’ve done my fair share of carpentry, not so much with cars. I used to change my own oil and have replaced lights and helped a friend do a brake job once as the helper. That’s about it. Not sure I’m interested enough for any major modifications. I like that I can take the roof off and get through the snow and am comfortable on a road trip. When my stock tires wear a little more I’ll upgrade there

Rock rails (sliders) are a great door ding deterrent especially with a lift. Years ago before you saw many lifted XJs, I had one on 35’s with rock rails fabricated by a 4x4 shop for. Unibody drilled through, steel supported and welded.

One day I was waiting in a TARGET parking lot for my wife and a women in a new Mercedes sedan parked next to me. When she got out she used her foot to kick her door open hitting the rock rail with the thin sheet metal edge of her door. My window was down and I heard her make a few grunts as she tried to close her bent door to no avail... thud her door didn’t close, thud still wouldn’t close ?she screamed “what the hell are those things on your car?” I told her “they are my door ding protectors “.

For my daughter’s ballet classes there were tight parking spaces and a lot of soccer moms and dads with big SUV’s. I loved parking the MJ on 38’s with seriously built and welded rock sliders. I could park in the very front of the building, prime parking real estate and no one would park in the spaces on either side of the MJ. ?

For me it labor cost vs. time or headache factor.

I've found that as I get older I'm more willing to accept help (or pay for it) and less insistent on doing things myself.
