In years past, I've been a diehard Toyota guy and I've owned several Tacomas (98, 14, 16, 01) and 4Runners (89, 05, 06). I bought the '16 new and kept it for ~4 years and then traded it in for a Golf R and had that for a few years. While I had the Golf-R, I needed for a truck and picked up a '01 Tacoma. Now, I want to get back driving a truck on a regular basis and after several test drives, I settled on a Gladiator.
After not being able to find what I wanted on the lots, because I was looking for a Sport S, Willys or 80th with:
- Automatic Trans
- 8.4" Radio Group
- Freedom Hardtop
- Trailer Tow package
- Cold Weather Group
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Trac-Lok rear
After coming up with nothing in the region, we decided to place a factory order. While my dealer was building the Gladiator, JEEP would add on (unless to me) options/accessories onto the Sport s/Willys/80th build and it drove the cost up. He suggested that we try and build an Overland instead and we did; for just under $1000 more, I was able to get everything I wanted and added Leather seats, Proximity Entry and Aux switches without.
I'm happy to say that I ordered a '21 Gladiator Overland on 4/19/2021 and this Jeep has a couple firsts for me: first factory order and first Jeep. Now the waiting game.
I don't have any major plans, but I eventually I plan on (I'm sure the list will grow):
- Line-X spray in bed liner
- Access Original tonneau cover
- Weathertech floormats
- Bestop Sunrider
- Oracle LED headlights, Diode Dynamics SAE Fogs
- 2" budget lift and 285/75R18 AT tires on stock wheels
My current '01 Tacoma TRD Off Road with 3" OME lift and 255/75R17s BFG KM2 on FJ Cruiser wheels.
'16 Tacoma TRD OffRoad with a 3" Old Man Emu lift with 285/75R16 Cooper ST Maxx tires on SCS wheels.
