If they are going to 'electrify' a Gladiator, I would much rather it have a turbo I-6 engine + standard hybrid (Not plug-in). The F150 hybrid is an excellent example on the market today.
Plug in hybrids function just like regular hybrids except they add the plug in option. If you never plug it in it will behave like a non plug in model. At this stage in hybrid vehicle evolution, i really cant think of a reason not to have a plug on every hybrid...unless ur trying to same some production cost i guess.

Is the JL 4xe a regular hybrid? I was looking at it on Jeep’s site and it didn’t mention being able to charge from it’s own motor.

I always thought a plug in is always also a hybrid just has a battery for electric only which can be charged via plug only. Ah we know so little ?

Then why don’t all hybrids have plug-in included?

Yea you're really plugging in the 4xe to take advantage of the 25 mile all-electric range. After that it'll behave like a more traditional hybrid and will certainly be more powerful than our gassers. I do wonder how it'll compare to the diesel. Either way, I'd understand some apprehension when they first come out. The sooner they get out the better though, can work a few kinks out before I'd be ready to trade mine a few years down the road.

‘Yes the website does talk about being able to plug it in. You can use a Level 1 charger (110 volt like what is in your garage and it will take about 11 hours) or a level 2 charger which will charge it in about 2 hours. The range will be about 21-25 miles so depending on your commute you may not have to use the gas motor at all...

I understand being able to plug it in, can it charge itself from the gas motor?

I don’t believe so. The charging comes from regenerative braking as far as I understand it.

Yes... ALL plug-in hybrid's can charge from the gas motor. I am not aware of a single plug-in hybrid on the market without this capability.

The only reason not to include a plug on a hybrid model now is to save cost

I had the chance to see a TRX in person today. A dealer in another town 50 miles from where I live had got one in, and had it ready to be picked up by the new owner, and it was sitting out in front of their dealership. So I stopped and looked it over. Pictures do not do this truck justice. It is much more impressive in person. The flared body panels over the front and rear fenders are much more pronounced in person, and when viewed from the rear quarter it really has a trophy truck look to it. Everything about this truck is spectacular in its detail and execution.

All I have to say, is a 392 Gladiator would have to be very impressive, and a lot less money to not just buy a TRX instead.

The starting price of a TRX ($69,995) is less than at 392 wrangler ( $73,500). No way the Gladiator ends up less. TRX is a much better buy than a V8 Gladiator will ever be.

Depends what you are after. There is so much you can do with the gladiator that you can't with a TRX with or without a HEMI and vice versa. I would never cross shop these two personally

i think the price is what would cause the cross shopping, they are for sure two very different vehicles.

I would then probably look at the new RAPTOR with the new exhaust setup on the twin turbo V6 if I was getting a new full size truck. Power is good and if they fixed the sound problem all should be fine even without the V8 power there. Though the TRX has the beautiful whine. Ah I don't know ?but them all
