Just looking for a little guidance from the group.

I want to upsize my stock 33s to 35s

The new rims will be 17 x 8 or 17x9 (Not sure what is better for 12.5” wide tires)

the offset is either +30 (17x8)or -12 (17x9)

the backspacing is 5.68 (17x8) or 4.53 (17x9).

I don’t quite understand the differences and don’t want to screw myself or myJeep

Depends on how much or how little “poke” you want. Meaning tire sticking out past the fenders. Here’s some pic from my stock height Mojave with 17x8.5 with zero offset and 35x 12.5’s on it.

Would 17x9s work? The rims I’m aiming for don’t come in half sizes apparently

Those look phenomenal. Do you have rubbing issues? I’m looking at the -12 offset rims and worry there will be rubbing with the 2.25” widening.

Keep in mind that every bit of tire that sticks out past the fender adds to rock chips, mud, spray, salts, and everything else ending up on the sides of the vehicle.
Unnecessary negative offset (poke) also changes your steering and handling geometry, allowing road and trail impact forces to exert more leverage on your hardware.

A stock Mojave can do Mojave things with 35's on stock rims all day long.

And now for some math.
1/2" = 13mm, so if you deviate from stock width by one inch, then you've added 1/2" to either side of center.
+24 would keep the inside edge where it is, because you negate the 1/2" of additional width.

+12 to +15 is reasonable.

-12 is dumb.

Wheel manufacturers push the poke out because it means they can fit most stock vehicles without spacers or lifts. The Mojave is not most stock vehicles.

Here's a quick visual of how the 2 different offset wheels will look on your rig. Just depends on the amount of poke you are looking for. The 12.50" width wheel will fit on the 8 or 9 inch wheel without issues.

Thanks for all your help everyone. One further question, is the Tazer Mini the best tool to reprogram for the bigger tires?

OP I hope you don't mind me jumping in on your thread... I am in the same boat. I really like the look of a more solid style military look. I was thinking of the Black Rhino Arsenal, Armory or the warthog.

My new JT is Sting Grey and I prefer an all matte black wheel. I cant seem to wrap my head around the offset and back spacing. I want to run 35" on 17 but not sure of the offset\backspace to keep it in spec and as little poke as possible.

I am open to suggestion on other wheels in the same style but cant seem to wrap my head around the exact wheel size, width, offset and back spacing...

Thanks in advance!

The Warthog wheel may be your best option as far as minimal poke. The 17x8.5 wheel with a 0 offset will sit right at the edge of the fender flares. Maybe just a tad (half an inch or so)out side of the fenders.
