The Mojave wheels also have a different offset than all of the other versions, which I thought was to clear the larger shocks.

May want to confirm you won't have any clearance issues if you use takeoffs from another model.
This is probably a stupid question, but I'm new... Where do the offsets "live"? Is that just a design of the wheel well assembly that would be there with any new tire/wheel combination that were added?

Hello All,

I just got a new 2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave. I love everything about it except I feel like the tires are overkill for my general use (probably should have got the Sport S or Overland, but I fell in love with the look of the Mojave and can't change now).

This is basically my every day vehicle in New England. My wife and I like to camp, but it's mostly fire roads and gravel roads, we aren't desert running or rock climbing.

If I wanted something that handled more precisely on-road with reduced weight for better acceleration, what would you recommend? I'm assuming it's wise to keep the same outside diameter?

Also, do you think I would feel more of a difference by changing to all season (or all weather tire), reducing side wall (and increasing wheel), or reducing width?

Thank you for any guidance you can give to a newbie!
Be careful because if you go to a sport wheel then the offset difference is going to pull the wheels in and make it look dorky. I put rubicon fenders on my sport s non max tow and now my wheels are a little inset.

Don't do this, Overlands are 18s. Keep your factory rims and just pickup new tires. The Overland tires are garbage.
I’m sure they’re better than the garbage Falken Wiidpeaks, and definitely better as a daily driver tire.

I would look into Firestone destination at2 tires in a P285/70/R17. They are oem size, rated for 2833 lbs, and only have a weight of 41lbs per tire saving you almost 20lbs per corner. You’ll easily feel the difference. They still have an aggressive look and are 3 peak rated.

They came with the A/T. The Mojave is just noticeably slower than the Sport S and feels less sure turning or just driving on dry pavement. This is 100% my fault, I realize. Just trying to adjust it to my liking,
I decent all season tire in the same size or a little smaller should be an improvement in handling, the different offset of the Mojave wheels is very small, as I recall it is +37 vs +44 used on all most of the other JTs.
My JT came with the same 4.10 gears as the Mojave but smaller and much lighter 255/75/17s, I switched to larger tires and it definitely made a noticeable difference in acceleration and braking and made handling a little slower.

I ran the Firestone Destination AT on my Ram 1500 and F150 for a few years and they were pretty solid. For an almost purely road tire I did like the Michelin LTX.

I would leave the tires on the Jeep and look into upgrading some of the steering components to help tighten it up just a bit. When the tires need replacing you can go that route...

Why change wheels get a better tire for your needs and sell the tires you have to the many wanting them on this forum. I have a Mojave and consider the ride and handling excellent no wander and ride is great, BUTT, I consider going to a narrower tire like something an inch narrower and perhaps inch taller Falken makes one but load range E which might make ride worse. My off-road is driving beaches surf fishing and find the wider tires push more sand then my other beach buggy’s I have had, and the tread is more aggressive and has some noise. So do what might be best for gas mileage and 98% of my use and get a more street type AT tire taller and skinnier. The tall skinny Falkens are 10 lbs. a tire less. For your use of mostly highway and forest roads I don’t think I would go with a shorter tire as your 4.10 gearing would have your RPM up more and perhaps drop mileage. My wife has a JL with 3.73 gears with smaller tires is a whole different ride and gets 21 around town and 24 highway while I’m getting 18 around town and 22 highway but Mohave is heavy. I much prefer the ride of the Mojave to the JL Sahara probably due to the wheelbase. Here’s the thing do what you want even with total street tires your Mojave will do whatever you are talking about….Jack

Very helpful. Thanks. I might try that. You think the 20lb drop in weight and the less aggressive treads will get me noticeably closer to the performance of the sport s on the roads?

At 20lbs a corner you’re going to notice a difference in acceleration and braking. Bumps will hit slightly less hard. You may see a few tenths in mpg gained with this weight difference as well. It will not solve wandering. Decreasing air pressure or doing some steering modifications like some have mentioned is your best bet there.

What are you watching? The thread is almost a year old, Greg has not been back since June of last year a week after the thread. Been pretty many threads related to same question. Mojave and Overland are different gear ratios, putting the smaller tires on will not give the same ride and feel as the Overland, but will probably change the ride and handling of the Mojave for the better unless you need the wide tires….Jack

I went from the sport s Bridgestones to Falken AT3W in 255-80-17 because they are 10 lb each lighter than the Mojave size. They seemed to give me the same mpg as the Bridgestones (I corrected the speedo for the taller tires).
