I am hoping to install a Mopar Steel Bumper and front skid plate on my Sport S (yes, Max Tow). I like to make sure I have everything set, so I've been watching some Youtube vids and going over diagrams. The buy was a private sale from a 2020 JL and I should be getting it this weekend. As such, I'm doing prep-work. Is it a simple install, just take off the plastic bumper and put on the steel in its place? Aside from connecting the wiring harness, that is.

TrailRecon did a good vid on his wife's 2018 JL Sahara. I noticed the cross-member at 5:55. He said it caused some complications in installing the steel bumper.

and in Quadratec's video at 2:05

and in this vid at 4:17

I don't see it ins some other Jeep JL/JT bumper videos

At 11:12 here

But @WXman did a good video on another bumper install and I see the part at 8:12

I checked out the parts diagrams for the Sport S and Rubicon and don't see the cross-member in the first vids.

The diagrams were the same for the Rubicon

https://www.moparfactoryparts.com/v...me-bumper-and-fascia--front-bumper-and-fascia

Nor can I find it in the 2019 JL Factory Service Manual. In fact, the FSM says to remove the splash guard/wheel housing first.

I did come across this thread
https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/rubicon-steel-bumper-extra-parts.16508/

So, for those who have installed the Mopar Steel Bumper on non-Rubicon trims, will there be a problem? Will I need the rivet inserts that TrailRecon discussed? Any different brackets?

The instructions for the bumper do mention the cross piece, but nothing on brackets

https://www.imagesmartdealer.com/mopar_accessories_isheet/K6863011.PDF

The instructions for the skid plate have brackets

https://www.imagesmartdealer.com/mopar_accessories_isheet/K6862783.PDF

However, Jeep parts websites show the bracket not fitting the JT?

If it helps, here is the Mopar Steel bumper installation I did on my Rubicon JT.
Note: there is a special skid plate for this bumper that screws into the bottom of the steel bumper and essentially makes the bumper and skid plate one piece.

thank you! Very helpful.

so I wont be needing the following with a take-off that didnt come with anything but bolts? Like the nutserts?
You're going to need a few things .... Give your parts department these numbers

Brackets (if the skip plate did not come with them) Right side - 68353837AA and left side - 68353836AA
Rivnuts for the brackets to frame - Need 4 -- 06511076AA
Screws for rivnuts to hold brackets - Need 4 -- 6104414AA
Screws to hold skid plate to bracket - Need 2 -- 06512587AA

The skid plate is held by 5 of these on the bumper. My bumper was missing a few of these. Order as needed 68355472AA
I see your post did include the last screws to hold the skid plate to the bracket

Here are the instructions for the skid plate showing nutserts and bracket

My Rubicon JT with the plastic bumper already came with that bracket installed. In addition, there were two more brackets installed using the bolts on the other side for mounting the skid plate that came with the Plastic bumper. I took those off, put the bolts back in, and the Rubicon steel bumper skid plate just bolted to the bottom of the big bracket.

@hjdca thanks!

Looks like I just wont be able to tell for certain without taking the bumper or air dam off and looking

One more thing, to anyone who can answer, the bumper arrived but between the weight bulk and rain the box didn’t exactly hold up. Looks like there was a slight scraping across the floor at some point. Minor, given I got it for 1/3 of retail. Any advice on touching it up to prevent rust?

Hopefully the lights are just plug-n-play and not missing anything

Just touch it up with some paint. Lazy man tip: Spray a little flat black paint into a zip lock bag, then use a small paintbrush or q-tip for touch up.

Will the plastic bumper wiring harness work for the steel? Looks like all I got was the bumper and actual lamps

Does anyone know the part number for the bolts that attach the LED fogs to the steel bumper? I got a deal on a take off steel bumper and skid plate but am missing one of those bolts to mount my fogs with the Maximus-3 brackets.

Yes the wiring harness from the plastic bumper will work with the Mopar fog lights. It's just a pain to disassemble the plastic bumper.

I think all the fog light bolts are metric M6. You can pick up stainless ones from nearly any hardware store or auto parts dealer.

I will just buy the harness then. Will putting it on/in the steel bumper require a similar level of PITA effort as removing it from the plastic?

part number should be 68336460AD

Caught the same number but with AC on a video of a JL install and the connector for the light to the grill-side wiring had that number. Which was confirmation of what I had found on my own

Just a couple of zip ties on each end and some good duct tape across the middle. Taking the plastic bumper apart, removing the harness, and re-assembling the plastic bumper takes about an hour to an hour and a half.

I agree. It’s a PIA to get to the wiring. Also once you take it out, you have a worthless bumper now.

So, I think I have the parts list for the bumper and skid plate. Looking over the actual bumper before ordering (because shipping), I noticed that the LED fog lights dont look to fit the holes. I found that there are brackets for that part of the bumper: 68325051AB and 52AB

Jeep Gladiator Mopar Bumper Install 68325051AB_0

bumper looks to have them. What am I missing in terms of the fit? I have a feeling before I even get to install I will have to tear the whole thing apart. Diagrams only show from the front/top, nothing from behind

I suspect I will also need 68298651AA, the Fog Light Mounting Bracket
BUT, it is not listed as a part in the parts diagram for the steel bumper or front facia of the steel bumper
