If I was doing a 3 hour plus max tow trip I would have waaay more confidence in a diesel jt over a supercharged one....
Unless it's hot ha, then you'll be on the side of the road waiting and hoping to get out of limp home mode..... or completely on fire like this diesel ?

I have no horse in this race, but you did challenge the supercharger guru on Gladiators ha..... for my money, I'd have him install the Magnusson, tune it and enjoy life :handsinair:

No hard feelings either way, just found this thread fun.

I just need to find that spare supercharger money....... ;)

There is no way in hell a non-diesel JT is going to tow at maximum rating in 8th gear and get 12 MPG doing it. Not happening.
I pulled my TJ with my JT Max Tow 400 miles round trip, about 6700lbs in all, and averaged 11.5 mpgs in my non-diesel. Not saying I was in 8th gear much of the way but 7th still got me decent mpg there and back. Mix of flat interstate and Ozarks in Northwest Arkansas.

Uhaul trailers put a heck of a lot of weight on the tongue when hauling a short vehicle. I helped a guy load up an Eagle wagon I sold to him - he came with a uhaul trailer. The tongue weight on the back of his poor truck was crazy. They make those for longer or even average size vehicles. A short Jeep has to be almost 80% vehicle weight ahead of center line between those trailer axles.
Other than my gripes about uhaul trailer LOL - for whatever it's worth, COOL PIC!!

You’re right about the tongue weight. We ended up putting most of our gear, luggage and cooler in the back of the TJ to help even out the weight. ( No back seat in TJ)

Could you back the Jeep on trailer? The tires in the same position as the one in the picture?
If it was me/mine, that's what I'd do.
That would put the heaviest part of the Jeep right over the trailer axles. (but don't let uhaul see that)

I'd have way more confidence in a stock Pentastar than either, honestly. But both are beasts, I'm sure.

For the OP;

You are going to be close to max, pay attention to the load (ie where it sites) don't load the truck up, go slow, and you would probably be fine.

Check all your boxes; tire pressure, tongue weight, speed lower.

For the DaveA vs crowd:

Ya, ya all miss the Magnuson part of Dave's truck. the 3.0l is a better monster (if it can stay cool) than the 3.6l but not when the 3.6l is charged.

3.6l is a good motor, I read some place it was designed with the thoughts of a turbo originally, main caps are 6 bolt design, w 4 bolt main , it's a stout lower end.

Weakness is probably the tranny; the 3.0l version is stouter than the 3.6l but even then every thing is within the tranny's manufactures range.

From the internet -
The nodular iron crankshaft is common to all Pentastar engines (as of 2010); it has an 83% increase in fatigue strength due to the rolled fillet process. The crankshaft has four bolts on the main bearing supports; two more are cross-fitted in the main bearing caps providing an extremely rigid bottom end.

Yeah, the bottom end seems stout, but isn't it an open deck design? Seems that'd be the weak link on the top end with heavy boost? I know I read somewhere around here someone is working on manufacturing forged pistons..... and maybe adding support to the top end.

Having said all that, I'd take the Magnusson and :handsinair:

Exactly, I don't think they've read the details of his supercharger and custom tunes.... it's like art ha

See my other post above about 3.6L, seems stout on the bottom, I just wonder about the top end?

I’d be curious what hp and tq Dave has.
I think his setup is probably very awesome and ideal.

I still like my diesel.

440 hp and 380 lb-ft per Magnuson, Dave dose not tune for power, but drivability. I do not believe he has dynoed his.
