You not getting Max Tow on a Rubicon anyway. Only available on the Sport and Sport S
Doesn't the Rubicon pretty much have some of the options standard that the Max Tow has ? Dealer told me that.

Having said that, while not hard to install, gearing and lockers are probably the most expensive to install after, probably costing $4000 or more for front and rear. Makes the high cost of the Rubicon and what you get look cheap in the long run.

You don't get upgraded brakes or the towing capacity of the Max Tow. I don't think you get the wider axles either.

You do get the wide-track D44’s with the Rubicon (same as Max Tow). It states that on my window sticker. :like:

As was said, you get the same wide-track axles which do include the same 4.10 gears and the same 6,250lb GVWR sticker on the door (others 400lbs less). You don't get the lockers or sway bar on the max tow and you don't get the upgraded rear brakes or the top tow rating on the Rubicon.

There's also a few packages you can't get on the Sport S like LEDs, the Alpine system, steel bumpers, trail cam, leather, and proximity entry.

If you actually plan to tow with it on bigger tires, you will absolutely need to regear which means the cost of adding lockers is the locker units themselves. Some shops are actually cheaper with a new carrier, gears, and bearings beacuse you don't have to disassemble the factory unit. We used to shave .5 or so off if the parts were dropped off ahead of time because we could assemble everything in our downtime. When the customer came in, it was literally rip and replace and set the proper lash in a couple hours plus plumbing if it was going to be a locker.

My max tow has Alpine stereo. As for cooling, I don't know if there are more than two (regular and HD) cooling fan motors, etc. Daytime running lamp system is included with max tow. If you have the detailed option list, HD cooling on the max tow is NMCP. antilock HD brakes is BR6P.

Given the choice about how to spend my money, I prefer the "No-Spin" model Detroit Locker, or the Yukon locker. While they have the reputation of being harsh on engagement, with the longer JT wheelbase, they would not be very noticeable. Now I have to decide if I want one, and if so, wait until the aftermarket catches up and offers one for the Advantek metric Dana with the correct spline count.

If we had the ear of Jeep engineers and marketing, we could ask why the Max Tow is only available on the Sport S. Maybe the extra weight of the Rubicon options mean less towing capacity within the GVWR. (It seems that most of the added weight comes from the bigger, HD tires). Maybe the suspensions are incompatible for the rock crawling vs. towing purposes. Maybe they wanted to enhance sales of the Sport S by offering something special for it. Maybe the extra height of the Rubicon with its bigger tires hurts towing stability.

I am still so dumbfounded that they Aux switches were just not a standard. I have seen many jeeps loaded with most of what I would want but its like very few of them have the Aux switches which is crazy considering its a jeep. Just put it in all of them and add it to the price.
Agreed. I had all the options I wanted in my preferred color (Gator) but mine didn't come with the darn aux switches. I've been doing some reading on adding them as I can't stand the open cubby hole so either add the factory setup or go aftermarket.

For the max tow vs Rubicon... is it just the rear brakes that are larger? I wonder if you could just swap out the brakes and bolt on the larger ones, or if it's not that easy. It is the same axle, I just wonder how different they made it.

Is the harness there to install the aux switches or does everything got to be bought to install them. I have read some say everything is already there and others say not. There are two sets for sale locally to me for $150

I have not looked into it too much but from what I have seen the wiring is not there. I was reading a thread here for AUX switches and someone posted a link where to buy the switch bank and wiring for around $450. Still need some sort of programming at the dealer to interface the radio with the switches I believe.

Here is the whole thing for $319. JScan I got can flash everything. What's it cost as a added option?

You have to run the harness. IMO it's pretty straightforward but that's also coming from a former tech who did electrical 80% of the time. I have the kit sitting next to me and I'm only expecting it to take about an hour.

You will have to pull a pin from a factory connector and build a couple plugs so if you are not at all comfortable with electrical, I highly suggest having someone else do it for you.

edit: I was wrong. Holy shit fuck this harness. Grommet is a tight fit and I can't get in there with my big hands so I'm tearing the dash out and running the harness, some 6awg for an interior fuse block, some 4awg for an inverter, and I'm swapping out the knee speakers for 6.5's and some pods. Also a high probability I'm going to modify the harness on the switches to get rid of the excess I don't need like the interior lines and the run from side to side over the engine.
