What about Gas Consumption on the Ko3's? I think those tires are lighter... So, notice any difference of gas mileage?

My Falkens were getting worn at 29K, so I put a set of KO3s on this morning. And wouldn't you know it, we got our first snowfall of the year today. They did great in heavy wet slush! I've always liked the KO2s for places like Colorado and Moab, so I'm looking forward to seeing how these do too.
Thanks for the review!

I just put on a set of KO3 in 315/70r17. I had KO2s that wouldn’t balance for the life of me. Curiosity got the best of me and didn’t realize the load range on these are F2. I didn’t know it went up to F.
Anyways, they actually ride great and quieter than the KO2. I have about 50 miles on them, so a long way before I can really “review” them.

I’ve got just over a month with my KO3’s 315/70/17 (calibration done at the dealership) and set the PSI via chaulk test. Fronts are 32 PSI and the backs are 30 PSI for full tread contact. I figure the difference is because of the engine up front and the extra weight of that. If you run the PSI to what the door says or what the installer puts them at, (35 PSI) the outer tread does not touch the road.

I’ve had KO2’s for the last 6 years, on the Tacoma sport for 3 and my JTR for 3 and ran this last set to 105k kms and tread was darn near the wear bar on those. It was time to upgrade in larger size but I wanted the KO3’s.

I’m glad I did. I was surprised to know they are 12 ply but these tires are very quiet and roll over road obstacles and cracks very smoothly compared to the K02’s. I’ve had to balance a couple times now because of very slight steering wheel vibration at around 100 km/hour (60 mph) but I’m taking them in now to get them road force balanced on Monday.

Another shocker for me is my MPG went up (for you Americans) and my litres/100 went down for us Canadians. I thought because of the near 35” I was going to, my gas mileage would have suffered but NOPE, it improved. I have done two trips already west of Calgary and have done many trips up to Edmonton from Calgary on the KO2’s and if anyone here has travelled those highways, there is plenty of headwind to plow through with our bricks. I have always gotten 17L/100 (13.8 mpg) in a strong headwind so I was expecting worse when I took two trips west of Calgary with the same westerly headwinds with the 35” KO3’s. My gas mileage read 13.5L/100 (17.4 mpg) !!

I can’t come up with proof as to why other than the science behind the new tread pattern changed the rolling resistance of the new tires. 🤷🏼. I’m super stoked to have them.

Have you checked your calibration with a GPS? As far as I know dealers in Canada haven’t had the ability to adjust for tire size for a while now.

And common, your tires didn’t improve the fuel consumption that much, that’s a bit unrealistic.

Haven’t checked with a GPS. I will next time I’m out. I should have took a screen shot of my mileage. I’ll take a screenshot of my gas mileage and update ya all next time I’m bucking the headwind on the highway again.

About a week following the calibration, I get the service contract from FCA congratulating me for coming in to have this done. We know at least one dealership up here can do it. They calibrated my last set of tires too which were the KO2’s 285/75/17.

So, just cuz I could, I looked up my weather app and saw there was a good headwind from the north west so I jumped in the truck and drove 19 kms to Cochrane and took a photo of my gas mileage. I then drove all the way back and took another photo of the mileage with a tail wind. You can say I didn’t drive far enough but I did when I loaded up the wife and the Dane (twice) and headed off to the mountains and saw the same 13.5L/100 going out there and it was 10 something coming back.

I also downloaded a gps speedometer app and it reads the same as the dash so I can confirm the calibration was correct. The only other person that saw what I did was my wife…and the dog but she’s not talking.

I too noticed an increase in MPG on my ecodiesel … shocked the F load rating feels so smooth. These are a good tire so far. Hope they pick up stones a bit less than the KO and KO2’s … I almost went KM3 because of the stone tossing.

Mayne I missed it but are you in a diesel? Report back over time, mine was better on 35’s then 37’s. No idea how it was on 33’s.

Anyone have any feedback on what to do with these tires if your displeased with them? I got 4 k03's 315/75/17 on my Mojave, and I've been back to the tire place 4 times. The one tire shows unbalanceable and the other 3 look like the treads are popping up all over the middle of the tire. Pressure is set to 32 all around. My buddy says I must have gotten a bad batch and that's why it's shaking at highways speeds. Anyone else have this issue?

People care too much about load range when it comes to ride. These aren't 2-3k pound jeeps anymore, they're 5-6.5k pound vehicles so if you set the pressure right for the load they'll ride fine.

Ive found it's more the brand of tire that matters than the actual load range and even switching load range in the same model of tires made very little if any perceptible difference.

The “tire place” won’t go back to manufacture and raise a warrantable claim for you? They must see there was a defect in making them. The PSI sounds about right. I chaulk tested mine to 32 up front and 30 in the back. I wanted the 315/75/17 but could only get the 70/17 but I’ve been back twice for rebalance to get the very slight shimmy at 100-120 km/hour and it can’t balance so on Monday I’m going to the dealership to have them “road force” balanced. If they still shimmy after that, they are going back to my tire place to get swapped out.

I don’t know, (speculating here) but my tire place wants to air them up to 35 and I kept airing them back down to the chaulk test limits. At 35 the outer tread doesn’t contact with the road. Maybe it’s a tire that rides best when crowned?? 🤷🏼

You might not be wrong, but decades of begging for C rated tires on my Jeep is a hard custom to cut out …

But yea, the gladiator weighs as much as a ram 1500, no reason to be as picky as we are. But I’ll reiterate that my F2 rated tires ride as smooth as one can ask for, very nice.

I’m at the dealership getting my 5 KO3’s road force balanced because of a very slight shimmy felt at 100km/hour and quite shaky at 120. The tire store rebalanced twice to no avail, hence getting the road force balance.

The tech came out to say one tire can not be balanced due to it being “out of round” and I’ll need to go back to my tire store for replacement.
