I feel I already know the answer, but is this brand new tire toast?

It depends on where you take it to try and get repaired. The big-box tire stores will tell you it is too close to the sidewall, where your neighborhood mechanic if they still exist, might fix it.

If you plan to run low tire PSI on a trail, I wouldn't trust a fix. If just riding them on the street, until the tread wears off, then a patch or plug might work and you can keep an eye on it yourself.

Maybe you got lucky and it isn't a long nail and it hasn't went all the way through.

Sorbs is 100% correct. If it was mine, I'd get a plug kit from auto zone or whatever local auto parts store and plug it. Or, if you can find a local mechanic that has plug-patches, that's probably the best option. Normal plain Jane patches (i.e. without the plug part) are tough going onto the sidewall because of the amount of flex in that area, and tend to fail.

Nail is through unfortunately. Sounds silly, but I’ve got a trip. Swapping the tires between the spare for the fancy wheel to take the unused spare and putting the nail tire on the steel wheel since it holds air until I can find a replacement.

Anyone have a single base Rubicon wheel and OEM A/T they are willing to unload? I’ll go to a 5 wheel rotation going forward.

Not sure where you live but see if you can find a place that does tractor tire repair. That is NOTING for them to fix and you won’t have another issue with it. I mounted a set of Goodyear MTRs and didn’t even make it home and picked up an easy out through the center (nice brand new easy out). My local tore shop, which does LOTS of real tractor tire repair fixed it and never had an issue with it, even on the one wheeling trip I made.
