I’m gonna put on my Dr. Phil hat for a second: I think you are looking for someone to help you convince yourself that you are doing the right thing by trading in a 2020 JT for a 2021 with the 8.4” screen.

I don’t think anyone can answer that question but yourself.

If I were in your shoes and were looking to get rid of a brand-new truck for another, and money were no object, I’d make sure the new truck has everything I think I might want on it, to avoid being in a similar situation in six months.

If this means getting the painted top and the painted fenders, etc., I’d make sure the 2021 better has them, and in the right color, too.

Good luck.
I am not looking for anyone to convince me to do anything. I have had my gladiator 16 months... they came out with a diesel so I would now prefer to have that. Just looking for opinions on building.

I’m not saying money isn’t a option... if that were the case I wouldn’t have even started this thread. I started it to get ideas on how to build this one...

Let me worry about trade in value and cost of the new diesel. That really has no factor in what Information I am looking at in this thread.

I don’t think the max tow really matters that much anymore... I ended up getting a Tundra to take care of those needs for me hauling our boat. I think the 6,500 capacity with the diesel is sufficient enough and fairly close to that max tow version limit. I don’t think it would matter that much to me now.

Here’s some info on the Freedom Edition. It is a Sport and includes everything in a Sport S plus some additions. It comes with premium soft top, leather stitched cloth seats, steel front and rear bumpers, rock sliders, LED head and fog Lights, and some USA flag/military badging along with some other cosmetic things. The body color flares are included, but a body color top is not even an option. 8.4, tow, and cold weather are all additional, just like a Sport S.

For your needs, definitely start at the Overland. And, if money is not an issue, then just order one with every option and you won’t have any regrets.
have you seen the freedom yet??

It seems like towing is the key for you... so, you have different needs than me, but, since you asked.... --- We 4wheel a lot. Almost every other day now with Covid. We have lots of mountains, hills, rocks around us. I was surprised how much I use the sway bar disconnect and lockers on the Rubicon, especially when I do not want to air down. Sway bar disconnect also helps smooth out those straight bumpy dirt roads. I also like the Rubicon lower gears in 4WL when going over big rocks. If I traded my 2020 for a 2021 diesel, hands down, I would get the Rubicon model again.
Sway bar disconnect only available on the Rubicon?

In person, no, but the December order guide lists everything it comes with. Plus, it’s been a model for the JL and you can build it on the Jeep website to get an idea what it looks like. My personal opinion is that it’s price is not too far off from the Rubicon to get it instead. I just ordered a Sport S Max Tow yesterday and prefer to save the money so I can mod it myself.

I'm on my second JT, my daughter now has my first JT

***** IMO ****

White: bland color, easiest to maintain, I always get tired of other colors in time, white is just there but I don't get tired of it, after a few years of experience I now always get white vehicles. Also the white cost less.

If you get an Eco diesel, no matter what trim you chose there is no choice on the 8 speed auto or 3.73 gears they come with the diesel. Since you will be getting the auto, if you get the cold weather group you get remote start.

Aux switch and Trailer tow package: are NO BRAINERS in respect to cost even if you never use them.

LED: is another NO BRAINERS for me.

Forward facing trail cam: you can add an DIY aftermarket for less $, but the OEM is better, but you will have to have the 8.4” Premium Audio group for either choice to work.

Leather: have leather now, last JT is had cloth with Bartact seat covers, now I think I like the cloth/Bartact better.

Body color hardtop: my first JT had it, second one has the black hardtop, My reasoning on this I am adding a Bestop Sunrider for hardtops later I think it looks better on a black top. Difference in priced black vs body color will pay for a Sunrider.

Body color flares: they stick out there a lot and WILL get scratched, less expensive to replace the black flares, but black may fade in time.

Alpine premium audio: depending on which model you chose it may be included with the 8.4” Premium Audio group.

Active Safety Group and Adaptive Cruise Control: subjective but I like them, also Adaptive Cruise Control cam make the front windshield replacement more expensive.

Trac loc: I would if not getting a Rubicon.

You didn't list the remote-proximity keyless-entry: it is now common knowledge how to add later for less $ if you don't mind waiting on the backordered parts for the kit. It is a must have for me.

There is no perfect set of options, you will later wished you got-X option, and also think Y-option is a waste of money.

Leaning more toward a Freedom now... curious if the start up screen will be the upgraded screen?

Here's the Diesel Freedom Package, it comes with the Sport S radio and display package. I'm stuck between this and a Rubicon Diesel with Hardtop, aux switch, and Tow. The Rubicon will be a couple grand more but at my price from Gupton it won't have the leather, LEDs, and steel bumpers. I figure I can add all those things later. Can't easily add the Rubi dis-connectable sway bar, transfer case, and axles.
