Dealer discounts were routinely breaking 10% when rebates were 10%, and now that rebates are 15% the dealer discounts are down to 5%.

So the mnfr is giving up more money and the dealers are using that to reclaim their profits is what it sounds like to me.

I bought my jeep for 8% off MSRP (3% below invoice) before rebates were even a thing and even back then that wasn't close to the best deal around.

Hell I got mine at 8% off invoice. If they could match that with a diesel Sport S Ecodiesel tech group and all the other stuff I have from factory. Might consider a second one.

That’s about a 21% discount. Pretty smoking deal!

Dealers get something called "Holdback" on new vehicle sales. When they sell a vehicle the manufacturer sends them cash that varies based upon the vehicle in question, it's invoice price, etc. So, when they're selling at "Invoice" they're still making a profit from the holdback. With a slow seller like the way overpriced Gladiator Jeep has put "money in the trunk" in form of dealer incentive cash, kind of a rebate that goes to the dealer so they can move the JTs off their lots and get them off their financing, called "floorplanning." The dealers are making a nice little profit on these sales, and Jeep SHOULD be learning what the real MSRP should be on the buggers. Thos of us who swooped in and scored one of them on this deal (mine was 18% off MSRP) will likely not be pleased with the JT's residual value a few years down the line when trade-in time comes around.
