I'd say it's possible to reduce noise with Sound Assassin type materials in door/tub and get some headliners. The most noise - imo - comes from the top edge of the windshield where it meets the freedom panels - that hard angle. I don't know of anyway to stop that.
Good point on that hard angle. I wonder if a visor or some such device may improve flow.

I'll check out Sound Assassin.

Some sound goes through the glass but most is through the sheet metal skin. Luxury cars have lots of extra padding to deaden both the sound transmission through the sheet metal and to absorb reflected sounds inside the cabin.

I've experienced a few vehicles before and after a major application of Dynamat products and it was noticeably quieter. I had a 1996 Hummer, which is a LOUD vehicle and when having other work done I covered about half the insides with Dynamat and it was noticeably quieter, especially around the engine hatch between the front seats. The sound deadening sheets are not that heavy and I can see adding maybe 20 to 30lbs on the vehicle if you cover all surfaces inside the cabin.
Hell, I'm carrying an extra 20 or 30 pounds  . I am sure "Bessie" can handle the extra weight too! LOL!

Thanks

I feel the same about my wife. Dont know where id be or who id be without her. She's about the only person I can stand being around anymore.

I wonder if spray on sound deadening of some kind is an option. Add it to the floors and top. Its worth a try to not loose the toy.
I believe it's called Lizardskin sound control something...

You don’t know my wife. She’s the kindest, smartest, most loving person I know. She freakin hot as Hell, keeps our family on track and we are all the better for it. Oh yeah, her JL is a Recon, she is not afraid to get dirty, and she is a better technical driver than me. But thanks for sharing.
Then you Sir, are rich beyond the wildest dreams of most. Congrats and I hope the very best for your hearing, and for being able to mod your jeep to keep.

It's for the most part just like great stuff but denser. I would avoid it because it will slowly absorb moisture over time. Most vehicles this isn't that great a problem but jeeps being jeeps, water is always in the back of your mind.

In those cases where you can't avoid it, limit it to those areas you really can't reach with the tapes.

A well reasoned chart showing the pros and cons of each type of system.

To add, the spectrum coating in the link was/is not the foam type I was referring to, that's more of an architectural product.

The Spectrum coating they show in the link appears to be able to sprayed on the exterior, hint hint, and suitable for a serious double whammy of coatings on the outside and applied tapes on the inside.

And just to add more fuel to the fire, it seems we should all define what we're recommending.

Mass Loaded Vinyl is a very heavy, 1lb or 2lb per square foot, vinyl sheet product, and pretty much adds massive bulk to a panel. Excellent for killing low frequency drones and transients. So things like engine clatter and road/tire noise. This will help give you the big german car hush.

Constraint Layer Dampeners are the multi-part "foil and rubber" systems that are going to help arrest dynamic transients like horns honking, wind flutter and the thrum of sheet metal. This will help give you the big german car cinema effect; you are watching the world go by but nothing is intruding.

Mastic coatings are the spray on products. They form convoluted surfaces like big soft wrinkle finish which helps mask tire roar, underbody hits, gravel and sand spray as well as other vehicles noise. They should also do a good job of quieting your driveline noises as well.

Using all three should result in the quietest possible that the vehicle can be.

I knew a guy that worked at a Line-X shop and he completely covered the outside of his Jeep CJ something with black Line-X. It was very quiet inside. About a year later he was diagnosed with some strange cancer and passed away quickly, probably due to working with Line-X for many years.

I have some hearing loss, and tinnitus. digital noise canceling hearing aids are your best bet.
these are intelligent, they amplify voices, and reduce/cancel background noise. seriously, instead of trying to make your truck quiet, go the hearing aid rout first. Your money will be better spent. The newest tech in hearing aids is pretty incredible. down side,,,,,,,,,They aren't cheap!

If you have to sell the JTM give the 2021 F150 Tremor or Lariat a look. They are nice, quiet, and very capable rigs.

I'd try the digital noise cancelling earbuds. The new Sony wf1000mx4 are supposed to be the best of the best. I have their over the ears and it's amazing.

If that doesn't work, check out a ram. They use noise cancelling and routinely are rated to have a quieter cabin than even luxury brands. Even at 80 you could hear even slight noises.

I would try...if you love the truck that much and plan to keep it 8-15 years.

take the carpet out and go over the top with one ot the sound deadening adheasive products, not just floors but up the sides of the foot well and up the back of the JT behind the seat. Remove the interior door panels and do the same. In both these, cover up as muchas you can get to. As far up the firewall and siade walls as yo u can.

Then, go hard top only. Using the same product, covery every inch, sides and top. If they make a 1 Piece hard top all the better. From there find a creative way to at least make it somewhat eye appealing. Your call if you want to cover over the gaps in the freedom top and in the end disable that functionality. Maybe try full headliner matting withe product you choose, then seal the freedom top off if you need to go further.

I would suspect many of these hardtop insulator products already on these pages won't do as well as a full out attack on every available inch of exterior that you can get to with some of the other products available outside the Jeep market.

Reinstall the carpet.

Look for an under hood product, may be the same you used as above, line the underhood, as much as you have access to.

All this gonna take time, cash and a lot of detail cutting. Well worth it.

Truck will still be re-sellable, just not mayb the hard top.

Forget the soft top, forever!!! or just go by a Pickup truck.

Stock exhausts only!

No mud tires.

Window vent covers may help with some noise reduction s well.

And hell, that digital ear buds comment above may be a great deal more affordable and less of a hassle, just don't know how it may work with your condition, per your Dr. or any litigation from any accident? Great suggestion though. Damn there are some smart people on this site.....

Last sunday freak medical shit, my right ear went 100% deaf. No need to tell the story here, just know, it is a legit 100% lost. And... My left ear sucks from 20 years in the Navy serving alongside the Marines as a medic and on board ships. All indication is my right ear loss is permanent. Even if I get some back it won't be conversational hearing.

I'm the proud owner of a 2020 Mojave, and my wife has a 2020 JLR. I love them both, and until a week ago could not imagine myself in another vehicle, other than another JT, ever again. Now that I can only hear from my left crappy ear I can hardly stand to drive either of them. When I am driving with my windows up, radio off and AC on low it sounds like my left window is open about 3 inches. I can barely understand the passenger and cannot hear any conversation from the back seat. If the family goes somewhere I sit in the back right seat so my left ear is to the family and the cabin. I am fine by myself in my gladiator, with an ear plug. Or as a passenger.

The JLR is going nowhere, but my Mojave is not long for my ownership, unless I can get it quiet. I have never asked the community for input until now. I have two questions:

1. Can I do it? Can I make it more quiet or is it a lost cause? I have been around the community for a while and know that Jeep Bricks travelling at 75 mph makes a lot of wind noise.
2. If I can't make this work, what truck do I buy? I am torn between a loaded Ram Big Horn diesel or an F150 XLT hybrid. I know the 2020's will be out soon. I expect them to just be different cooler than the 2021 but I don't think there is anything big that would sway me one way or another. If you think there is a specific good reason for something different let me know please.

I am a desert kid that likes to go where I want to go. I do not need to crawl much.

Thank you fellow Jeepers.
Thanks for your service. My jarhead son has nothing but great things to say about the corpmen he served alongside...even if they are Navy ?
