New top on wrangler 392?

Was scrolling through some pictures on the new 392 page and noticed the top looked a little different. Hard color matched top tails with a soft center section? Did I miss something about this option? Also the windows come out differently... I’m guessing this is to combat w the bronco.

That isn't a new top. It's been available on Wranglers since 2018. It's a power retractable top.

I agree it does look good, I believe my wife would want that option on her new Wrangler next year.

So it would be $1000 more than a hardtop and after market freedom top.... that’s not as expensive as I thought. Sorry I’m so late to the game on this one!

However it would need a complete redesign due to the shorter top length of the gladiator, which means we will likely never see it...

It's a pretty expensive option on the Wrangler so not too many people get it. I assume that they didn't bring it over to Gladiator due to the smaller production numbers making it not worth the development costs or something like that. I'm sure it was entirely an accounting decision.

You might want to double check your math. $3995 is $2800 more then the basic hard top ($1195) and $1800 more then the body colored hard top ($2195). And the Gladiator version would likely cost more due to selling fewer and still needing to recoup the development costs plus the required profit margin.

No worries, this appears to be an upgrade from the body matched top which is 2195. Then if you add a sun rider that’s over 800, that would be an extra 1000 to have a full auto roof option. By reading it looks like you have to get the color matched sides w the auto top, can’t get the core hardtop... my comparison was for a regular color matched hardtop w sun rider VS the newer auto top.

I think the biggest problem with putting it on the Gladiator is how far it opens. On the Wrangler, when open it stacks up over the rear cargo area, which the Gladiator doesn't have. The rear window is fixed and the JT doesn't have the rear side windows to pop out either. It wouldn't expose much more than the freedom panels on the HT and would further complicate going fully topless in addition to adding cost to an already expensive truck

There is no where to put the sun rider. There are no freedom panels with the power top.

I think I read that it’s a permanent installation. If you go this route, you can open and close at will but never be able to take the whole thing off. I saw one in the wild a week or so ago, but it was closed.

Not sure where the confusion started, all I was doing was comparing the cost of a color matched hard top PLUS a sun rider, is only about a grand less than the auto top.

I think it’s pretty obvious you wouldn’t want to add a sunrider half folding top to one that goes completely back .

Yea I agree... it would be a totally different design and likely wouldn’t work... which would sucks. Guess we are stuck with that man bun for now.

Also I wonder if this design has issues with leaks?
