Yeah, I do not see them doing a recall on this. At best, maybe a warranty extension for the issue but that would be remote also. Not everybody will have the issue and they are not going to chuck new cams into millions of engines for just because.

On similar thing with the 5.7 HEMI and their tick with wiped cams and lifters, I do not recall them ever doing a recall either with those engines for that issue and handled it through attrition also.

Why? What is the safety issue ?
Safety not the issue? Maybe. Selling a now revealed defect is. What was the safety issue with the clutch recall: possible failures that could endanger the owner, how about that one? My engine s**ts itself miles from nowhere in the desert-now my life is in jeopardy. Heck, I could be endangered if it s**its itself in the middle of I-5.

How about just backing up a defect sold to you when you assumed good product engineering? I didn't cause these to fail or be defective, particularly noting that is does not affect other V-6 engines of the same design in other models. C'mon.

So you go off-road with absolutely no means of communication? No radio, sat phone or other device at all?

Besides, there's warnings on these before the things absolutely DIE. Often the warning is many many miles prior to even setting a MIL.

There are other V6 engines out there with the same cam and follower design for VVL?

So what changed AFTER that date? Redesign?

CAMS are Bluetooth now with a internet subscription required.

No. Design is the same.

Yes, like I did in the old days, trusting my steed to carry me home.

Apparently so...from TSB:

" The cause has been attributed to a “manufacturing issue.” It affects North American vehicles only, according to the service bulletin (TSB-09-011-25). It appears to only affect “PUG” (Pentastar Upgrade) engines, and does not impact the Charger, Challenger, or 300."

There you go.

Hopefully the manufacturing process has been fixed.

This was my quote -

Everything you mentioned is the same core engine.
I asked about other V6 engines with this design.

As far as the 300, Charger, Challenger, those have different cam profiles from what I have seen in technical specs for lift, duration and so on.
So they are likely cams from a different supplier.
AND - the BIG reason -
- up through at least 2022, those cars didn't have the upgrade engine!
So of course with no VVL, there's no point of failure like the VVL has. So those 3 are excluded at least in some years by the fact they didn't use the PSU (which I found is the official MOPAR designation for the PUG, a term which they seem to be reserving for something else)

No other company's V6 uses this same system of VVL - not that I have found, anyway..........

 There you go 😁

As far as being left stranded - how many in Jeep forums have been left helpless (not their fault!) by the side of the road with OTHER issues that have cause the Jeep to simply stop......vs those who have had to call a flatbed due to a cam failure?
Dozens of other things will fail and leave you stuck with zero warning.
Anyone who is smart (say, military, or an experienced Jeep off-roader who does it right) will have paid attention to their whole vehicle for signs. You don't get into an aircraft making a weird sound or with some reading that's out of normal. You don't go into the desert with a valve train noise (out of the norm) or that has had a MIL that wasn't explained and so on.
In any case, a person who knows their stuff will be prepared with some sort of communications. I wouldn't take the most reliable Toyota in the world into the desert without some sort of link to help. Shit happens.

Hey, @Charles 236 - do the CURRENT Charger and Challenger, or say, 24 and later, use the upgrade 3.6 with VVL? I think you said the gen 1 was discontinued in 23??
