New Willys JT and no engine cover

I would agree with this sentiment regarding the engine cover…however, you might wanna ask yourself…”what other QC-related issues may have slipped by?” because the missing engine cover is pretty apparent, unless you’re Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder…

Keep a sharp eye on other things..

Never having knocked out of puts I wouldn't know what force it would take. But why not just lay the hood against the windshield, and then you won't have to worry about it falling on you?

The speed and ease if simply lifting a hood and having it supported as opposed to walking to the side to lay it back (especially in the wind I was working in) - especially if you are stuck in snow or mud and want the hood open.

I don't know what force it would take either but it's a pain in the butt - it's in the way, the clip that holds it up is brittle stuff and being blind in my right eye I figure it's possible I could forget about it since it's the only vehicle I have with a prop and knock it out and do some damage.
The struts or conventional hinges are what all of my other stuff has - I just hate props.
It would have been nice to have had the struts last weekend when I was in snow and on ice winching a guy out and I wanted the hood up on my truck. Unlatch it, lift a bit and up it goes?

It's personal preference - I hate hood props. They save Jeep money and a few ounces of weight.

I was astounded how CRAP the new Bronco looks under-hood. They must not have had time to get an engine cover molding made.

Cannot comment on the Gladiator here.. but on many vehicles in the past the engine cover was to hide the ugly engine with wire harnesses all over the place. No other purpose. Look at Ford's crown jewels - the Cobras... and GT500s too which were also Cobras....no engine cover in sight, even pre Terminator era ( no blower ). It was just a well designed aesthetic engine compartment.

I remember when everyone was pissed that the started putting covers on engines. They thought they were inauthentic and somehow ruined the experience of seeing the a well organized engine bay by allowing manufactures to stop caring about what they looked like. Just slap a cover on and don't worry about it.

The problem was engines were getting so complicated and hoses and wires were occupying so much of the engine bay that there really wasn't anything to look at so they slapped a cover on because otherwise its just a rats nest under there. Another part of the problem is efficacy of make modular platforms that can be share across model lines and other manufactures cars even. This makes the act of organizing this in a way that makes the engine something beautiful to look at more difficult because what works for one model may not work for another.

It's unfortunate but it's where we are. Now we fully expect to see a cover because we've been conditioned to expect it.

I joked I haven't opened the hood and thats not completely true. I opened it once to jump a friends car but otherwise I have not. I don't check my oil, I don't re-gap my plugs or change my alt belt when it starts to squeal. I don't do anything on cars or trucks anymore. I could drop the tranny on my my old TJ and put in a new clutch in a couple hours by myself but now I don't touch anything. It's kind of sad but it's just too complicated now.

Most drivers never even see under the hoods of their cars. They ain't gonna spend money to engineer, design, and make a cover to pretty it up for the few that care. They needed the cover for other reasons and at the same time, hey, let's at least make it look decent.
There's really so little to clean up or worry about on vehicles in the past few years. In fact, that's one thing I've noticed at car shows - unless someone puts some bling under there, why bother showing the engine bay? It's boring, wiring is hidden in nice compact bundles. Do you notice a hodge-podge of wires and hoses on a 3.6? No, not really.
My wife had gotten out of her Grand Cherokee and forgotten to shut the engine off because it's so quiet - and the cover is part of that reason (air flow another).

Reality check - how many customers buy a car even bothering to look at the engine or care what it looks like? (ignore Jeep people, I'm talking real people, ordinary car buyers)
I'm a life-long mechanic and yet I bought my Silverado never caring a rip how it looked under the hood. I cared about HP and torque and towing and that's nothing to do with appearances.

Because like I said mine showed up to the dealership a couple of days ago and Renee has been calling everyone that has one available for pick up because she is going on vacation between the 24th and the 3rd of January and wants everyone to pick up prior to next Friday. I asked if I could pick mine up after January 3rd but she said there was some rule by FCA that they were only allowed to keep sold vehicles on the lot for 13 days so she needed me to go ahead and come get it next week..... just a reminder, mine is a Rubicon....
**** after reviewing my post, I guess in a way, they are correct because I will be picking up between those dates... not delivered between the dates.. so they are 50% right... lol
