I think you missed some context in what I posted. We agree. Pretty much across the board.
You are likely correct. I was in a hurry and my wife called to tell me to meet her for lunch and get a package to her she needed - miles away. My bad, I rushed. (don't keep the wife waiting!)

I asked if I could pick mine up after January 3rd but she said there was some rule by FCA that they were only allowed to keep sold vehicles on the lot for 13 days so she needed me to go ahead and come get it next week...
That is very interesting. I wonder - insurance reasons, perhaps????? (just guessing)

So, 2022s are shipping with no engine cover? Sort of like Ford does with the Bronco?

I always take mine off to shed heat, but I still think it's lame that they don't come with them. It makes the automaker look bad and cheap.

It's a sold vehicle that hasn't been paid for. My guess is they want their money.

Sounds like a load of crap to me. 2021 Willys and mine has the cover.
How is it a load of crap?
The dealer just stated that some don’t come with them.
They are correct obviously.
The real obvious question is why?
As mentioned there could be a. supply shortage issue, but truck was shipped regardless.
Lots of new vehicles are arriving at various manufacturers dealers lots minus or missing functioning components.

The problem is that some of the stuff keeps getting repeated and no one ever bothers to do the real research.

Here's more behind the smooth under-belly idea ->
------------------
Up until about 10-15 years ago, many manufacturers simply didn't care about the underbody of the car, leaving everything exposed. This is great as it allows heaps of cooling for components like the engine, transmission and exhaust, as well as being cost effective and allowing for easy maintenance. However, it's about the worst thing you can do aerodynamically, as the disruptions to the airflow under the car both increase drag and decrease downforce.

Further in their study, they took a car and modified it and did testing ->
By adding the flat floor we dropped our drag force at 180km/h by 15kg, and our downforce increased by 50kg. That's a sizeable gain for only adding a flat floor and not performing any other modifications. And the flat floor geometry I've added isn't even close to optimized for performance, so you can really see why manufacturers are starting to fit heaps of plastic panels on the undersides of their cars to smoothen it all out.
---------------------
And then has anyone noticed the upturn of the rear of most vehicles now? That air under there is FASTER and to prevent drag at the rear, they have to slow it down to meet the air over and around and at the back - so they open things up allowing it to expand and slow down before exiting the underside. There's a reason that there's that upswept bottom at the rear, and smooth lines back there.

As far as covers - most research shows it's engine noise. Engines rev higher than they used to, injectors click and make noise, etc.
Here's info from a manual for one car -
VW Jetta 1.8T - The factory service manual produced by Bentley (for Volkswagen) specifically calls this component the upper sound absorber panel.

And here's another source's explanation -

Controlling engine noise, reducing it in both the passenger cabin and the exterior vicinity of the vehicle.
Controlling airflow over parts of the engine and supporting equipment to maintain proper cooling.
(controlling air flow under the hood has been demonstrated in wind tunnel videos! They want it controlled and exiting out the bottom)

They are primarily to reduce noise - Both interior and for exterior (pass-by noise regulations).

Think about the typical family car - most customers never lift the hood so they would not spend the money on engine covers for looks.
Omg so off topic. You need to apologize to the OP for the thread hijacking.?

It's people making the front of their Jeeps into a face. Why are they ALWAYS angry? Trying to look tough, compensating? Who knows, but they always look like a cartoon to me.
I know it's a long word, but you're a big boy go look it up.

No, not really, it's stressing how things like shielding and covers are often engineered for a purpose. AND it was answering a post that said those under-belly shields were going away.
You need to take it in context and look at the post it was in response to.

Odd, there's no engine cover............ hey, wait, there's no hood, either!

They sure don't seem to be the least bit concerned about how the wires and hoses look. There should at least be a shield around that belt.

I wonder if that cold air intake helps mpg?

Stopped reading after page 3. But here’s the official word in the parts catalog for 22+. My personal experience/opinion. Engine covers came in when customers still opened their hood regularly but excessive wiring and emission hoses made them overly complex looking and unattractive. Now current day, it’s a miracle to hear of a customer who knows to even open their hood let alone check their oil regularly, and as engineering improves to mitigate engine noise which have been excessive in recent years past, it’s safe to omit the plastic

You guys had customers who regularly opened hoods? Must be a NJ or eastern thing.
I could tell stories of vehicles that never had their hoods opened until a red light came on.

No engine cover here - but there aren't that many hoses or wires or lines to confuse people either. Pretty simple under the hood. (ignore the 3 vacuum cans, carbon canister, and vacuum lines that control the FAD switching)
