Hi everyone! Soon-to-be former 2021 JLU owner who's switching to a 2022 JT SportS w/Max Tow. The JT should be here in the next week or two. We already have a couple of camping trips (16ft camper @2700lbs) planned starting the weekend of June 10th. We've been using the JLU as our tow vehicle but it's super sluggish and we're really close to maxing out our towing limit.

Considering the JT will be here mere days before our next trip and the manual says to drive 500 miles before towing, do you think it would be ok to do the 500 miles in one day? I'd be willing to take a day off from work (because that's always a good thing) and spend the day driving. I've always babied my vehicles during that break-in period and have never crammed all 500 opening miles into one day. Just curious if anyone has an opinion.

Thanks and looking forward to getting to know everyone!

As long as you don't overtax anything, it should be fine. I am going to be lucky on my break in. I live 550 miles away from where my Gladiator will be delivered (at some point). So my break in will be all in one shot as well. Just know that there is a second towing break in of 500 miles as well.

Side note, there are quite a few members that tow and have provided writeups and feedback. Searching the site could bring some of them up.

I drive my rig home the same day as pick up, 500 miles or so in a weekend. Have at it.

I have the Eco Diesel, so no engine break in required, but the 500 miles towing at 50mph still applied. I did that in chunks, just keeping track of miles driven on trip "B" and writing down on an index card. Sometimes its tough trying to stay on access roads and side streets the whole time.

Thanks USMC! I've been reading the forums all morning. Didn't see this particular question. I'm glad to see the gladiator forum is as bountiful as the wrangler forum. The people on these forums are one of the reasons I love being a Jeep owner so much.

Thanks Bananaman! I read that part of the manual wrong. I didn't realize it was 500 miles of actual towing. Thought it was 500 miles from my first tow. I'll definitely keep track of my miles once I start towing now.
