I have driven Jeeps for about 30 years. Back in the day everyone waved. I only would see a couple Wranglers a day. For the past 11 years I have driven a Wrangler Unlimited. As Wranglers became more popular, the waves diminished. I now live in Baton Rouge, LA. I get the fewest waves from the younger drivers. A couple weeks ago I took possession of a Gladiator. Now I get nada. I still wave because it is wired into my DNA. Even when I rent a regular car I wave at Jeeps. I had someone at the airport, a Wrangler owner, tell me Gladiators are an abomination. Oh well. I love mine. After some therapy I'll get over it.

Not many Gladiators out here, but I haven't seen a JT here and the driver not wave. CJ's to JL's, I'll wave at the occasional XJ if they've spent some time on it (my first car was an XJ).

My gf has a Volvo and I wave at jeeps when I drive that thing. Its a friendly culture thing, and in my opinion, part of ownership. But yeah, not worth overthinking.

I'd say close to 70% of people in my area wave. Interestingly it's Wrangler people, never Cherokee people. I've only seen two other JT's in the past couple of months.

This being my first Jeep... during the first few days I definitely was like "who the fk was that?" as people kept waving at me ?

Haha, Cherokee guys are so used to NOT getting waves from other Jeeps so we only wave at each other ;)

I was used to the constant waving between motorcycles. Drove a Diesel Liberty for 5 years, and didnt even know the Jeep wave was a thing, until I upgraded to the lifted Gladiator EcoDiesel. Now, occasionally I get confused and wave at motorcycles from the Jeep, and vice versa.

I still wave and get waves while riding. That's never going away.

Is it because "gladiator" or is it not a thing anymore?
I've waved at a ton of people and they just /ignore.
Even the lifted guys.
What gives?
I live in Saint Augustine FL and everybody waves to me in my Gladiator. Move here lol

yeah i have seen that happen to me to i think its my age grope that has ruin jeeps and heres why. now most guys who own jeeps that are my age are full out doushbags with daddys money (i am happy to say im not one of those kids) and there dad has A.) never had a jeep themselves and they dont know the jeep wave or B.) there dad never told there kid about the jeep wave. my dad used to have a old 2 door jeep when he live in maui and he has even commandeer my truck just to drive it! but he was the one who taught my the jeep wave and i do it to the following jeeps (new jeep owner take notes)
1. 2-door jeeps
2. modified 4-door jeeps
3.any gladiator i see
4. and any old modified gand cherokee (not the new ones unless modified ofc)
its a shame to see that some people stop doing the wave but i know that i will keep waveing! :like:

In AZ, 90% of lifted Jeeps wave. Except XJs, they're antisocial

When it comes to stock-looking Jeeps most of the time it depends on gender of the driver

Ha, I’ve noticed too. I have owned an 83 cj, 85cj, 98 TJ, and now my 20 JT. Always waved. My wife and I borrowed her dads JK to go to the beach (Before I had my JT). She asked why everyone in a Jeep kept waiving at us. I explained the Jeep waive and she thought it was great. She now wants a Jeep of her own! Keep it alive fellas, it matters.

I have driven jeeps since the 90’s so I always wave when I see one. It’s just about second nature to me, like driving a manual, I don’t even think about it.
Sometimes wife says to me, you don’t have to wave at every jeep :giggle:

but ever since Jeep introduced the JL and JT, they have sold them in record setting numbers. I believe the decline of the wave is because there are so many new jeepers on the road that they just don’t realize it’s a thing, so I say just keep waving and maybe one day the new jeepers will understand it’s part of the Jeep culture.?

I traded in a 2020 Willys for my 2021 Gladiator. I seem to get just as many waves as I did in the Wrangler.
Yesterday a stranger asked me if Jeeps wave at me in the Gladiator. He told me he doesn’t wave at them because they aren’t a real Jeep. LOL

Shallow thinking IMO. I told him that I didn’t buy my vehicle to be waved at.

In Ohio, we're up to our ears in Jeeps. There's one every 500 feet or so. I lift two fingers off the top of the steering wheel and give a nod. But I'm sure I miss two for every one I see.
