I'll start by saying that I've been a Jeep enthusiast for more than half of my life now. My first car in high school was a '94 ZJ that I drove for a few years, and about 10 years later I bought a '96 ZJ and basically drove the wheels off of that thing. Loved both of them - they had their quirks and of course had some issues being 10-20 years old, but overall they were pretty solid.

When the JT finally came out, I was stoked. I wanted one from the start, but it took a while to actually work up the guts to plunk down such a ridiculous amount of dough on a Jeep (Rubi + diesel + lots of options).

I finally ordered one this May and got it at the end of August. The first few weeks were great, but after about 1,300 miles I had a low-pressure fuel pump failure (https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/new-diesel-jt-wont-start.62996/) that I'm still not sure if the actual pump failed or if it was a wiring issue. It's been at the dealer for 12 days now, sounded like the parts were all lined up but they needed to perform the repair.

While the dealer was working on it today, they rolled it into a service bay and damaged one of the fenders and part of the hood with the vehicle lift. It'll require a new fender / fender liner and probably some paint work on the hood.

The dealer seems to know they messed up and my first call with them seems like they want to do right by me, but I'm not really even sure what to ask for. Also not sure if I should just go straight to JeepCares, or if I should try to resolve things with the dealer first.

Other folks with difficult dealer experiences - what has Jeep and/or the dealer done to make up for it? I remember reading some folks pushed for extended warranties, or for Jeep to cover payments while it's in the shop.

I'm not sure if this will be a Carfax report type repair or not, but either way I'm pretty upset that my brand new vehicle has already been substantially damaged....by the dealer....while it was there because it failed at 3 weeks / 1,300 miles.

I don't really want to involve JeepCares (so I won't @ them) until I feel like I know what the best way to proceed is.

Sorry this happened (and I would be pissed) but I dont really see the issue...The dealer is going to make it right and you need to decide what you want out of this (did you buy an extended warranty). The hood seems superficial only and the fender/fender liner isnt a big deal. I know it hurts inside but if they make this right, get the thing fixed and go enjoy it...

Mistakes happen and truly what are your other options?

I dont see JpCrs doing anything since everyone seems to be cooperating on the matter..

The hood is a badge of honor, the fender they will replace with a black one and the new Inner liner will fall out and cause your right front tire to freeze up and pull you into a ditch! Jk I’d see if I could get an extended warranty out of the deal. Other then that let them fix it and move on. But seriously push for the warranty lol

People Work?
I can't imagine this being a Carfax issue.
I think most of your frustrations are coming from having a new vehicle, making payments on a new vehicle, but not driving your new vehicle.
I'd give the dealership a couple of weeks at most to get it fixed and back in your hands.
If they give you some runarounds on parts shortages and lead times, I'd point to one in the same color on the lot and say, " Since you broke it, I'm seeing this as your problem, not mine."

First, they need to make you whole by replacing all of the damaged parts, along with the labor. Second? I like the idea about seeing if they will provide an extended warranty. Can't hurt to ask.

Those are badges of honor. Well maybe not the fender liner. If you drive your Jeep the way it’s intended, you’re going to (or at least should strive to) get a lot worse than that. But yea, I’d try to get them to comp you a service contract for your trouble and inconvenience.

And here I thought I was a mercenary bastard...
When the dealer damaged mine, they fixed it, end of story.

Here's my 2 cents. Document everything. Get their correspondence on text, email, and then print it out for you records. Follow up phone calls with confirmation emails.

They admitted fault and have offered to fix. I'd let them "right the wrong", but in case it goes bad, or if the dealer changes their mind, you have the trail.

Having had dealers damage my vehicles under their care, it seems they are being up front and honest which is excellent. Let them fix it and discuss what they can do to continue to earn your business in the future.

Accidents happen and how they're resolved speak volumes about BOTH parties…

While the incident sucks, count yourself lucky it happened at the dealership and not a independent shop. This is not a "I won the lottery" situation to make claims or demands other than to be made whole.

That being said, the dealership will probably be self insuring this and fixing on their own dime without even reporting it to their shop insurance and I doubt it will even go on any Carfax.

Lastly, Jeep Cares really has no involvement here and is not a corporate problem but a dealership and you problem. Like others have said, let them fix it and move on.
