So I'm putting the memory card back in my dash cam and it pops out, bounces on the dash and dropped down the heater vent! I can get another card, but do I need to be concerned with damage to a fan or anything. I can't find a good diagram as to where that vent goes and definitely not tearing the dash up unless I absolutely have to.

Not so much the fan as possibly jamming a blend door, but will be easier to find and remove if it does. Not sure about our JT but my TJ vent cover was just held in with clips and pulled right off.

Lay the windshield down and you can get a straight down view.

I tossed a penny in the dash tray, it bounced and went into one of the holes. Rattled enough I had to get it out of there. Cheap telescoping mirror and some strong duct tape and you can get about anything out that went in.

Hey @kevman65 I did just try that and it went all the way down the rabbit hole. Are you saying theirs a fairly shallow bottom to that hole? I shined a light and see nothing inside but a nice funnel shape leading to a deep bottomless hole.

No, the penny didn't make it down that far. It was rattling under the top cross bars.

I didn't look any further when I found it, just made up my "fishing" rod.

Haha... I got I wire with tape down the hole but it feels a bit like Ice Fishing. Poking in the dark. I did her a little tinkle when I turned the fan on but after that it was quiet. Hopefully it stays out of the way somewhere ?

$35 gets you a bluetooth 11 foot snake camera off Amazon.

Heres a link to the one I bought. (Check out the video)

If your choice is $35 or trying to tear up your dash.... thats an easy choice.

It hooks up wirelessly to your phone and mine has attachments like a hook or magnet. It has a built in light, you just shove the thin camera into the hole and it will show you what is down there and where it is. The only problem would be getting that memory card out. There is nothing on the memory card to use the hook attachment, and Im sure its not magnetic. You might have to do it like someone else said above. Put the hook on with a small piece of duct tape and try to stick it?

Good luck!

Thanks @AzRob I didn't realize the snakecam was so cheap. I'll definitely check it out. For now my $35 is going to a new mem card.

I would not worry about it too much. Taring the dash apart to save a blend door that I assume would not coast much in parts. Wait to see if it causes a problem and only fix it then. Sounds highly unlikely to be an issue.

On the other hand if you ever roll it while off roading don't forget to check out if the card has made its way back to the vent for easy extraction.

Ok I took @AzRob advice and bought an endoscope on amazon. I didn't expect to find the chip but was curious what was down there. The shots show the huge "blend door" that definitely swallowed up that tiny chip the first time I opened it.

Luckily the cam did help me confirm a crushed clay drain pipe coming off one of my gutters. Now I got some digging to do! THANKS ROB! ;-)
