I like the “Desert Only” setting

It locks the compressor on so in humid areas, like Iowa, it would freeze the evaporator over.
In the desert, it was max cooling.
I've worked on a lot of those systems, but never had occasion to use that setting other than when recharging to keep the compressor running.

Yeah, MOPARs and others, like Javelin or American or Classic with vacuum wipers because there was no electricity to the switch, just a control cable.

If you need the foot pump, I can probably get you one cheap and I have been helping people convert their classics over to electric wipers.

Yep, 1956 Chevy with vacuum wipers. Don't get on the gas too hard, or they'll stop! LOL!

That's where the vacuum booster on the fuel pump came in - kept vacuum up.
Also - a little maintenance like the manuals said to do, and it wasn't a problem. They got dirty and sticky inside. As I recall, a couple of owners manuals I have in my collection of old car books explains the maintenance (along with retorquing head bolts, checking points, changing spark plugs and so on, right in the owner manual)
