Add to all of that being 50 years old with arthritic knees and 50 lbs overweight! Yep, that's me, the beached whale rolling around in the driveway. LOL
My wife describes me as shamu flopping under the car after I cover myself in oil from missing the bucket.

Although now with the jt I can just use a 5 gallon bucket and avoid the mess.

My '64 Dodge 330 had the reverse threaded lug nuts - their reasoning: with the reverse threading when the car is moving down the highway the centrifugal force on the lug nuts would tend to tighten them rather than loosening them.
That's where I remember it from - the 60s MOPARs...... yeah.

And then there's this, when the car tells you it's time to change the oil, find the closest Jiffy Lube and get it changed.

Everything I own I can change the oil without ramps or jacks, and I'm 60/60... 60yrs old and 60lbs overweight. Nobody but me has ever changed the oil on any of them, so nothing is ever over-tightened. The 2 3.6L Jeeps are the easiest.

Piece of cardboard just big enough for me and a 13mm long pattern wrench for the drain plug.

While that's draining, rag over the serpentine belt, then the 24mm 6 point socket on an extension for the filter housing. (I never strip the housing nut because I'm not a gorilla. And because I have a spare on the shelf, JIC.)

Swap the filter and o-ring after a little oil on the new rubbers and pop back on.

Replace drain plug.

Fill oil and check/top off other fluids.

Wipe hands with rag that was protecting the belt from any oil drips.

Close hood and drink a beer.

I find that a bit tough with one of mine......... heck, the headers bang against parking lot speed bumps. There's no way my speed bump would fit under this one ->

I can barely reach under to strap the rear axle down or the front control arms to the trailer.

Otherwise, I can slide under the SX4 enough to get to the drain plug and the filter can be reached from above. I do have to raise the front to grease all of the steering linkage and ball joints.

For anyone in Hampton Roads I would add:
  • Carefully check and double check and triple check the weather forecast on WVEC, Wavy, NOAA, et al. knowing full well there’s no such thing as a weather forecast in HR. If it’s 7 days of sunny weather forecasted inevitably it will rain and there be 50 MPH winds as soon as you open the hood.
Same rule applies to soft tops. I’m convinced there’s some kind of quantum entanglement going between clouds and the latches on my Freedom Panels.

Remember the days of the reverse threaded lug nuts? One side of some cars had left hand thread the other side right hand thread, then you get to another car, maybe same model but different year or whatever, and you are all messed up from the last one.
Yes, another Chysler better idea, thanks for the reminder that even engineers can pull dumb ideas out of their hat. Always tighten towards the front bumper...

HAHAHA every time!! Gaging the wind for oil pan placement is an Olympic event at my house. 2 of teh worst vehicles i have ever done an oil change one are our 2017 Ioniq, FFS the filter is in a idiotic place. Anyone with large hands, forget about it. I am too lazy to buy the filter removal tool. Teh 2018 4-Runner. Seriously Toyota, the oil filter should not be in a place that has 4 skid plates that need to be removed with 18 screw in different sizes. The stupid safety hooks that hold teh last skid plate are nearly impossible to get out with the foam over is.

No one has mentioned stripping the threads when they over-tightened the drain plug. This can go
two ways, either the plug threads strip or the oil pan threads. If it's the plug the fix is easier, just buy
a replacement, if it's the pan you may get lucky and find an oversize replacement. Also I had a '50
Plymouth that had lug bolts, they were marked L & R for left and right threaded, hard to mess up.
