Hi All.

I have a 2020 Sport S with 37,000 miles. I just got it inspected for the year, and they found oil and coolant puddling around the filter housing. They are saying I need a new oil cooler and filter housing, all the gaskets, etc. They are quoting me $2,000.00. Does this sound right? I have added the picture they took to this post.

It is a $200 part if replaced with OEM and about 4.0 - 5.0 hrs labor.

OK so they are way high. Also - I have the MOPAR extended warranty. Does anyone have any clue as to whether they will cover this?

I would expect the extended warranty to cover it but do not know the exact details of what you have. If just the powertrain extended coverage, it may not cover it as that usually is just for the internally lubricated moving parts.

If it were me, I'd remove the filter cap and filter and make sure the seal there is intact - or repair it. I experienced this years ago with an earlier version of the 3.6L that had the filter located in the same location.

That wouldn't explain the coolant leak. An overtightened filter cap could have cracked the housing and also caused a water leak. And if that is the case, I think a warranty claim would be denied.

It is possible you have a coolant leak and an oil leak that are not related. Change out the oil filter and oring. Clean up the mess and reinspect for leaks.

Coolant leak could be from a hose not sealing. If you go that far to see where the leak is coming from, I would just be ready to replace the cooler.

$2000 is awefully high. Are they the same dealer that changes your oil? If so, I wouldn't let them do the work if indeed the oil filter housing is cracked.

This recently happened to me. I have a 2020 JTR with 60k on it. I noticed some oil spots underneath my truck where I park, so I started investigating. I looked underneath the truck and saw oil spilling over the transmission and transfer case. I popped the hood and, sure enough, had a puddle down in the valley, similar to your picture. I took it to the dealership, and the oil cooler, filter housing, and gaskets were covered under warranty in my case. Goodluck!
