WTF?!?

Is that Red LocTite right below that flange of the cap? What did the previous owner do to piss off the lube tech that changed the oil.

Oh wait... that's a second O-ring... Carry on...

That looks like red RTV on the o-ring.

What???!!!! No torque wrench!!!??? Only hand tight😲😲😲. It absolutely MUST be torqued to the required ft lbs setting by a properly calibrated, lab tested, torque wrench or bad things are sure to happen!!……at least that is what I’ve always heard…….🤷‍♂️….🙄

Or one of those orange oil resistant o-rings.
I've got some - they used them in transmissions a lot over the years.

Totally unrelated - a question is - why is every idea, no matter how original it may be, or is not at all, why is it a HACK?

A hack is not a good thing. You hack at the weeds to cut them down, Lizzy Bordon hacked, hackers in China hack our government, but an idea is now a hack?

Why doesn't someone say "hey, just had this idea" - instead it's a life hack or a travel hack or cooking hack - and all the while I think back to the Hints from Heloise books where some of those ideas have been around since before I was born.
(including removing things with a hose clamp - ran across that on another site talking about can type filters getting stuck so it's been around)

Idea? Yeah.
Hack? Why? I suppose some tiktok kid thought it sounded cool and it became a tiktok lifer or influencer thing. Idea just sounds so ORDINARY and so very unexciting and original! Hacks are brilliant, ideas are old. Only old people have ideas. Young come up with hacks.

Anyway - I find it funny ideas are now hacks.

(good way to bring back a zombie thread, I guess)

I guess that the people who are "inventing" these hacks are pretty sure that they are the only ones who ever found them. It is like teenagers always saying "You don't understand." to their parents because they can't believe that their parents ever experienced whatever it is that the teenager thinks they can't understand. I hate seeing everything referred to as a "hack", for the same reasons you do.
