Having admired a friend's one, I was given this at Christmas. It's an aluminum Baier Ges Gesch Jeep Lighter, cigarette holder and ashtray c. 1948. These aluminum lighters were produced 1948-49 in Germany in honour of the western nations taking part in the Berlin Airlift. They're made from the plentiful material left over by the ordered destruction of all Luftwaffe aircraft at wars' end.

The bonnet houses the lighter which opens and strikes when the door handle is used.
