A nearby dealership has a left over '20 model at msrp 62k marked down to 55k. Is it worth it to get the left over at a lower price or order a '21?

Negotiate a ‘21 down toward their invoice. They’ll have no carry costs and can keep all the holdback. Everybody plays, everybody wins. Zero reason to pay retail premium for a car the dealer will have zero risk in.

if that doesnt work, look at cost of low mileage ‘20’s on the used market and see if its close to the price of the holdover. The market wont care if you bought that ‘20 now or bought it a year ago. A ‘20 is a ‘20 and thats probably how you need to price it. That truck has already cost the dealer a ton in carry so they may not cut it deeper, or they may. Depends on their incentive

My $.02:

Pros of the stock MY20:

Instant gratification, no waiting 6-10 weeks for an order to come in.
May be getting a discontinued color (you didn't specify color so maybe it's a Gobi/Gator?)

Pros of the custom order MY21:

If you go to Gupton in Nashville you should get a similar optioned MY21 at around $54K at 8% below invoice.
You don't have deal with the potential TSB/Steering gear issue of the MY20.
You get to choose what options, color you want, and not pay for the one's you don't.
Hey, it's a MY21.

Cons? None! Either way you win!

Read this thread.
https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...p-to-8-under-invoice-on-factory-builds.34440/

I ordered last week. 62 MSRP, Price 54 plus 399 doc fee.. 2021 Hydro Blue Mojave.

Aubie, The 2020 you saw may or may not have the new steering box. You can look at the serial numer on the box and tell. The 2021's will have the new steel box. There's a few threads here that discuss that.

Get what you really want. If you can find a 2020 just so, buy it. Otherwise , order.

That's what I did.

There is really not that much different about the 21's. You may be concerned about the steering box on the 20's but that TSB isn't going anywhere. I haven't even replaced mine yet and it rides fine for me, long trips and all. If you can get a deal on the 20 and it has what you like, pull the trigger. If you want it built to your specs, then order.

I wouldn't bother with a lightly used one. You're likely not going to get it for much of a discount, and then you gotta wonder why someone traded it in that quickly, might be nothing wrong but I'd rather pay a couple grand more for one with next to no miles. Financing is usually better new, too.

Most of all, have fun when you get it!

Last winter, I read that a new version of the UConnect would be coming out. Does anyone know if the '21s have the newer version?
Thanks!

Does the one on the lot have all the features you want, or potentially more than you do? I wanted a very basic Rubicon and there is no way a dealer would have been able to come close to my price due to me only getting like 3 options.

Remember things like a bed cover, LED, color matching, or other items you might not care for are still adding into your cost vs an order.

Things like aux switches, the under seat storage box, and 8.4 u connect are very costly to add after the fact.

The one at the dealership is black ext, tan int, tow package, cold weather group, led, 8.4 radio, safety group, acc, auxilary switches, cargo management group, slush mats, auto, keyless entry, color match hard top, steel front bumper, body color fenders, wireless speaker, front camera, and the polished black aluminum wheels. Only option I want that is not there is the spray in bed liner. I can always get that later. The dealership has 2 on the lot the one I first saw was 62k marked down to 55k. The one I gave all the options aboce is listed at 61k, marked down to 53k

Thats pretty good then if all you need to do is get liner. That is like the one option that after market is the same as factory. Im guessing you can get them to budge a little more if that is their markdown price.

I've emailed to see if it has the updated gear box. Waiting on a reply.

I just picked up a 20 JTR in Bright White, it had 5k on it and every option except for the dual top group. I thought about ordering, but didn't want to wait. I ordered my last 2500HD and it took way too long for my liking. I paid $52k with the mopar lift installed, and they gave me $48k for my trade. so at the end of the day i was just under $5k for my new to me JTR.
