I found this used Gladiator sport s at a dealer with all the perks already installed, a metal cloak lift and 37s, I test drove it and everything it’s already been programmed to the 37s. Is there a way I can tell the gearing it doesn’t have max tow and I only got up to 50 mph but it was shifting good. Also it’s a 3.5 in lift so the driveshaft needs to be upgraded correct? I’m new to jeeps and want some advice on if this would be a good purchase as the price is very good for the amount of money put into it. Or should I just avoid it since all the mods have been done already?

Measure the tire height.

Log the RPM at a certain speed, say 60 or 70 MPH. Note what gear ratio the transmission is in. Or do this in 6th gear (1:1) so you do not have to factor in the transmission ratio.

Then plug the #s into the gear ratio formula:

RPM x Tire Diameter
-------------------------------------- = Gear Ratio
MPH x 336 x Transmission Ratio

I bought one almost identical to what you’re describing, I have 37 and 3:73 (changing to 5:13) at 70 I’m usually in 6th gear. To put it in perspective a friend just bought an overland diesel ordered the same metal cloak lift and it cost him for rims tires and lift and shocks almost $11000.00 so if it’s a good deal and you like it you save a lot of money, if you want to do it yourself you’re gonna spend a lot. It’s to each his own. I haven’t regretted buying this one at all. It’s drivable with 3:73 but it’s not the best.

Based on what’s been done it seems to be done well, but was wondering if the low gears will cause damage in the long run to the engine or trans. It has 27000 miles with Patagonia mile star m/t so I assume the previous owner just traded it in after the tires wore down

The sooner you re gear the better, not likely damage yet, but the truck is definitely working harder on the wider gear spacing. I would go with 5.13 personally, you wont regret it, but you will sacrifice mpg on the highway.

I would go with 5:13 as well, the sooner the better. My buddy has 5:13 in his and is going to 5:38 and 40’s. His Jeep runs and drives great with the 5:13.

If you don’t know what gears are in it you can always have the shop Jack it up and spin the tire and count driveshaft rotations to tire rotation if it’s open diff spin tire twice and count driveshaft rotations, I think that’s what it is.

It does have a superchips f5 in the glovebox would that be able to tell me if the gear ratio has been changed based on if the previous owner had programmed it into the truck?

Tell the dealership you expect them to tell you what gear ratio it is and how they determine it. It will take a tech 60 mins to open and get the numbers

Your dealer should be able to pull the original window sticker. It will be on there.
