First, for the guys in mom's basement, the GPS is a rest area in NorCal and the radio is on a C&W station, only one with reception.
The pic above was taken when I turned off the truck, it never got hot, I was never able to do it again. It was fine, but heck, I had to snap a pic. Look at the oil temp. Yeah it just pegged out when turned it off, started it back and guage went normal. But I had to share with you guys.

I was looking for a blushing smiley, but couldn't find one. Glad to see you and the truck survived haha

Bad temp sensor? If the coolant is that high the oil temp would be higher than 212.
Bingo. That jumped right out at me.

Bro 419? You’d be dead. It’s a sensor for sure. Call Jeep Wave not that other number. 1 (844) 533-7928. Tell them the whole story. Be nice. Tell them you want a loaner. Jeep Wave tells the dealers what to do they are on your side and fought for me twice.

To OP....While I am bummed you're experiencing this, if you can find a different dealer, I'd give that a go. That advice in this forum is similar to the IT advice of, "Try rebooting." but still.

RE: your issue. While it's a longshot, my JKU had a heating issue. Not to the point of actually going bonkers overheating but after an off-road trip, I started seeing higher than normal and checked everything that I could. Finally went to the dealer and they said, "we pressure washed your radiator and there was some mud blocking airflow. And we changed your rad cap." I'm not a mudder but was in a bit that trip and I didn't find any sense in it but lo and behold, it was resolved. I'll bet a nickel and hope more that it's something silly and not too labor intensive. Good luck.

This issue is another example of modern service practices creating a pool of parts changers, not real mechanics or technicians.

I know ABSOLUTELY nothing about jeeps. But I've been turning wrenches for 45 of my 53 years on the planet.

If the oil is 212 deg, there is no way the coolant is 250 deg. No way.

One quick check is use an infrared thermometer on any metal part that is near where the temp sensor is. If coolant is flowing through that metal part near the surface, it will register a surface temp pretty close to the coolant temp.

I wouldn't bother unless I had one handy. You clearly have a sensor issue.

What is your oil temp? I watched the coolant, trans and oil temp when towing and empty, ambient temp is around 85 to 90. Empty all three are around 197 to 200 degrees, towing coolant and trans are around 215 oil gets up to 230. This is on a 120 mile ride on the highway between 68 and 73.

OP, maybe I missed it but is your fan running? As Mac asked, what is your trans and oil temps when this is happening.

That is not right. Just running around my JT normally stays under 200 degrees. I've seen it at 225-230 a few times but that was hauling my TT up a grade during the summer. Then the fan really gets going and the temps drop a little.

on his photo above its showing an oil temp of 212 deg. So certainly on the low end of normal.

I'll have to pay attention next time I haul the trailer. I don't remember being concerned about the oil temps at that time. I've also noticed that my oil and coolant temps tend to track pretty close to each other.

Even on my Gladiator I can hear the fan go to work and see the temps drop when hauling the trailer up hill, typically at 60 mph or so.

We can agree to disagree on the fan. Though I think its partly vehicle dependent.

Re coolant and oil temps - that kind of reinforces my thought that the OP has a sensor problem. 212 deg oil temp is very reasonable. Its hard to beiefe his coolant temp is 250.

I love my remote thermometer. I can do some serious troubleshooting with it.
I resolved overheating with one of my cars by putting a thermostat in (PO had removed it) and put in a CLEAN radiator. I checked the temp with the infrared thermometer and it read right on 190 degrees - the temp the stat was set for. I could tell how well the radiator was working by checking the temp of the coolant at the bottom of the rad - big temp drop.
