I'm confused on how this turned into a JK/JKU discussion???
It seems to me nearly every thread goes off the rails . . .

When y’all get done arguing over JK gears, is anyone up for an argument over square versus round headlights? Leaf versus coil springs? Maybe a round table discussion on which Jeeps came with which axles?

I thought I would ask since this seems to be the thread to talk about older generation Wranglers for some reason.

To me the extra towing is worth it alone.
But you add in all the goodies it’s a no brainer.
As far as not using all a Rubicon can do don’t worry. Most Rubicons out in the wild ever see dirt.
Just curious as to what the hell you guys are towing that is over 6,000 lbs??

Some folks are trying to use the JT as a 1/2-ton truck replacement...Which it is NOT. I've tried explaining this many times on here. Some just don't want to understand a V6 with only a 7K tow rating is NOT a 1/2-ton truck replacement. It may have Dana 44's (half-ton axles) with 4.10 gears, and a really awesome 8-speed auto, but that doesn't mean the rest of the truck is built for the task.

Exactly..

If you plan on towing heavy go buy a used Super Duty (3/4 ton) that's what they are designed to do all day every day......Used Super Duty's are everywhere and are affordable.

Y'all are exactly right! I won't haul anything heavier than a little Carolina Skiff or maybe a jet ski. If I wanted to pull anything heavier, I'd get a full-sized truck. It's aggravating watching people try to criticize a Gladiator for something it was never intended to be in the first place.

Same as the people who love to tout the 650 lbs. towing over a Rubicon. If you’re towing anywhere near 7,000 lbs. with a JT, for an extended distance, you’re going to have some problems.

Man they make it difficult. Talking to one dealership and they tossing some really interesting numbers for an Overland. Was really looking at Sport S Max Tow with some options but possible to get overland loaded up for almost the same cost. But it doesn't offer the max tow which at this time I have nothing to tow but was thinking down the line small travel trailer possibly.

I went with an Overland.

With dealer discount and incentives it was $8500 off the sticker. The cheapest Rubicon they had was another $6k and it was fairly stripped down. To get an equivalent Rubicon, it was another $10K+.

Purchased Rubicon take off wheels/tires, bed rack, roof top tent, new camp stove, Bestop sun rider, weather tech mats, and a tonneau cover. Still have tons of cash left over. Definitely a no brainier for me.
