Hey all. I really want to get an ovrlnd camper. Just curious how if at all it changed the driving dynamics, particularly on the highway. I really like how my gladiator drives now, it’s SO much better on windy highways than my 2 door JK I don’t want to change that. Do you have do drive differently/slower now that you have the camper? I definitely don’t want to have to drive it like my 2 door, in the slow lane hanging on for dear life in the wind haha.
Mine is on a Rubi, and the Rubi bounce is gone. Heading into the wind the only thing I notice is decreased gas mileage. About 1mpg as it sits now. I stoll have a bit of rake, even with the camper so I will probably end up installing a front leveling kit.

Cross wind is not an issue. On my way home I was hit by gusts up to 60 mph and the truck stayed planted. I really like the way it handles now.

I haven't taken it offroad yet except for a little 15 mile jaunt so can't say too much about that yet.

I have a bit of a lead foot so no, you don't need to change your driving style!

What kind of difference? Do you need to counter steer a lot to stay in the lane? Sorry for all the questions, I just really want to gather as much info before to pull the trigger!
No, you don't need to counter steer. Even substantial gusts don't move me around very much.

I don't feel I need to stay in the slow lane hanging on for dear life when it's windy. I upgraded to stiffer shocks, and a Hellwig rear swaybar and that's made a difference. I have stock height and will look into stiffer rear springs next.

Anything you add to the bed will affect handling. Not just from crosswinds, but just because of the weight. My camper came in at 280lbs. with it built out, it's now closer to 400lbs. Probably one of the lightest you can buy.

The beginning of the swing away for the bikes, propane tank, and possibly fuel. It will have a hoop over the top with two stubs for the 1up bike racks. I ordered a generic MOLLE panel to cut into the center to act as a gusset. Slowly coming together. Got my Tig and MiG welder set up. Glad OSHA wasn't around. Forgot my safety glasses and wore my steel toed flip flops and shorts. 😱🤔🤦

Looks good. I'm heading out to Boston on Monday and won't be back till September, but I am happy to help if you are still working on it!

Been working on the swing away this weekend. I forgot how hard it was to get the coping right for round tubing. But I think I'm close enough. Had to relearn how to make a fixture. I will have to tie in the side piece to the factory quarter panel slider. Prevent flexing of any sorts.

Another piece of the puzzle done this last week. Had a local sheet metal shop(wish I had the equipment to do it myself) fab up per my design. Solar panel tray for the semi flexible panels.

I saw an OVRLND in the wild coming down I-70 westbound between Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction.

It was on a Taco so I didn't take a picture, that and I was driving! :CWL:
