I can’t believe the paint is flaking on my gladiator’s hood. It’s a year old. Anyone else having issues?

I remember seeing some reports of aluminum hood issues on the JL forum.

Damn - I have had my JT for 15 months. No issues like that. Knocks on wood. Yikes! Hopefully it’s covered under warranty

That sucks. But fix it with rhino liner and turn it into a win!

Bumping this up, noticed mine peeling today. Is this a 3yr 36k mile warranty coverage? I have 2020 pumpkin Rubi with 34k miles. Also don't have another vehicle wondering how long the repair would be. Thanks.

FYI incase anyone has same problem or wants to know. Called 2 dealers today 1 with body shop and 1 with out. Both said bring it by and they have to take pics and send it to Jeep for warranty claim. So I went to the one with body shop they took pics, then sent me to body shop side for estimate to send to jeep. Body shop guy said he would leave it alone due to exact paint match of Punkn, taking hood off with out cracking more paint on hood bolts to hinge ect.... Still advised to submit the claim since under warranty. Said I could expel strip that under side edge of hood to protect it or clear finger nail polish if paint starts to separate. That's all I got for now

when I picked up the JT they said five year warranty unlimited mileage on corrosion . You shouldn’t have a problem if you decide to have it repaired .

sadly sometimes Chrysler can do a lousy job, I had a poor paint job on my wrangler before I traded it off.

Very common. You can't really see it but aluminum forms a thin layer of oxide really fast. Paint doesn't adhere well. \
Many metals do that, but oddly, steel is more forgiving. I can leave very clean bare steel in my shop (assuming I have the AC working and it's not a humid day) and as long as it's thoroughly dry and been made more passive by a rinse in neutral or better water, it won't get that layer of oxide. Of all the metals I work with in plating, I'm able to leave steel clean and ready to go longer than most others. Even zinc, if I have to stop a process or plate over zinc, you can't leave it be even for seconds, the oxide forms so fast the plating won't adhere. There are special treatments for these other metals to prevent that issue, steel - not a big deal.

When I repainted the aluminum bumpers on my car, I had to use self-etching primer quickly after prepping the bumpers. So far, so good. That was 2013 and the paint on those aluminum bumpers is still perfect.
