Welll... I've grown tired of the factory alpine system. It's ALMOST enough but even after replacing the speakers it needs just a little more oomph. Doesn't help that i just helped my son install a 1200w amp w/dual 10s in a ported box with infinity kappa components pushed by a sundown amp. Yeah... I got the itch lol.

So, I'm starting plans for a sub box that goes under the passenger side rear seat. I still want some storage under there and the driver side should do fine.

There is a box from brp that I am going to emulate because it also keeps storage. I want to use a single 10 kicker l7t or JL 10tw3 BUT I want to port the box with an external port extending along the front edge of the box.

The only problem is the volume - the box says it's .7 cu ft but the numbers don't add up. Using various calculators the most i can get on the passenger side without raising the seat is .7 cu ft but that includes going wider than the pictured box and building back where the jack would go.

This is the one I am copying - this shows .7 cu ft on their site

I would incorporate the below design from ground shaker to maximize airspace

But on their site this only shows .55 cu ft which seems low when full boxes are at 1.3-1.4 cu ft and this is like 60%. I also don't want the extension on the right if I don't really need it.

Two 8" l7 shallow in a sealed box is my second choice if I can't get the 10" ported to work out.

Things I've ruled out -
all in one options. I use the locked storage beyond the rear driver seat a lot and I want more thump than that.
Fiberglass - did that before and I made a huge mess. I know myself
😆
Behind the seat - looks like way too much work.

I listen to everything from thrash to rap to country. So I want tight bass but a little dig from time to time.

I'm starting the build i about 2-3 weeks.

Yeah... i built a mock up today and the best estimate of airspace is MAYBE .6 cu ft.

So most likely going with two l7 8s but maybe 2 sundown shallow 8s.

Then where will you put all your straps, tools, and gear. Umbrella, hammock walking stick, etc.. well at least thats whats under mine. I like the alpine system and that 8" is plenty for me.

I am torn. I think I want to keep the storage but I kinda want stupid bass too...

I'm calling BRP tomorrow and seeing if they can build a wider version of this box or even ship a builder version in a flat pack without the holes cut...

The stock 8 is NOT enough for me. I wanted it to be... but it isn't anymore

I say it's my son's fault...
We just added some rear pods in his (my old) jku loaded with infinity kappa 603s pushed by a sundown amp. He already had the skar vented 10s with 1200w amp...

I also have all Infinity top dash 2 ways, 6.5" 2 ways in the lower dash, and SSV adapters with 6.5" 2 ways in the sound bar, plus an amp and DSP behind the back seat. I do have a tonneau cover and bed/tailgate mats, but we also have a full-size Chevy with 8' bed for the truck duties around here.

Not anywhere near enough cubic feet for a decent sub. Even my 8s are crammed in there without enough space. You MIGHT be able to get away with a single 10 and a box all the way across but we’re lacking the depth for a good sub.

I have 2 10s upfiring. No rattle. Great box. Totally happy with it...and I have had the 2 Concept subs since 2002! They don't make quality like they used too

Have you looked at the Memphis powered 10? I absolutely love it, and it’s not expensive. It fits behind my passenger rear seat and sounds great to me. No storage loss other than that.

It won’t blow the glass out of the Jeep, but it’s loud enough that my wife wants it turned down. Thankfully it has remote volume control.

With my two 8s I get TONS of rattling, which is what I wanted. Different strokes for different folks. The difference between the old stuff was low power and long lasting. The new stuff is insane on wattage. I accidentally fed my 8s 2700 watts and they liked it. You’d be hard pressed to find a pair of 8s from 2002 that could eat a thousand watts and survive. Much different times now. Good amps used to be a dollar a watt back then. My 2k RMS amp is barely over 200 bucks. Different strokes…

My son is pushing 1200w through two 10s in a ported box... I want to be closer to something like that - thanks though.

Fox box single 10 looks like i can build some little sections on the ends and keep some storage by removing the bolt box

It’s been a while since I built speaker boxes, but I thought you wanted to keep as much of your storage as possible. No. The one I recommended is not 1200 watts.

I only want to keep the driver side storage. I can give up the passenger side. Just need enough room for my recovery bag
