My feel good bubble was briefly popped this morning. I took my JLU to get biscuits for breakfast. My dog likes to ride, so I took him too. In fact, my dog likes to hang out the window and I have to hold on to his tail to make sure he stays in the car. I was thus distracted this morning when I saw a center console light was on. I quickly punched the button, thinking it was one of the climate control buttons. A few minutes later when I stopped at a traffic light, my Jeep turned itself off. It was a shock. It took ~10 seconds before I realized what happened. I quickly pushed the auto stop/start button to turn the feature off. During that 10 seconds, all I could think about was how was I going to explain what happened to my friends here. :)

I usually have the opposite problem. If I'm distracted, I forget to hit the ESS off button.

I would suggest some sort of fixed length restraint to limit your partners distance. It will also keep them in the vehicle if there is ever an accident. I've been guilty of the same behavior, but it is distracted driving.

I recently started getting the AUX switches not available battery charging warning on each start up. I want to try pull the fuse and disconnecting the aux battery, just not sure which cable is the correct one to pull. Can anyone respond with a picture to help me out? My Jeep is an Ecodiesel. Thanks

Depends on the year.
How do you know you don't have a main battery problem? Have you checked it or had it checked?
Great idea to make sure it's the aux before pulling things apart - could be the aux battery is helping to support a failing main.

It’s a 2021. Haven’t gotten around to checking the main yet, going to stop by autozone this week and have it tested. If the main is bad I plan on replacing it but would still rather just disconnect the aux system. I’ve had it turned off since the day I got my Jeep and installed the tazer.

If Autozone test the battery without unhooking anything then they are testing both batteries together. The 2 batteries have to be isolated from each other before they can be tested.

A small battery will not drive a winch.

I removed the aux battery.

I started with the “jumperless” method, I.e., remove the aux bat negative from the main battery, insulate the end and store it, pull fuse f42 (to disable the power control relay). The truck still works exactly as designed - even the stop/start still works. Later I pulled out the aux battery.

The Walmart Group 94 battery has virtually the same power as both Mopar batteries combined.

Inverter power calculations are complicated. Inverter efficiency has to be considered. Also, you can’t use all the amps in a battery when you are inverting.

I found the fuse 42, my main battery has two negative cables hooked to it. Which one do I remove, there is a small one and a bigger one.

That depends. :) Jeep changed the position of the battery cables after 2020. The safest thing to do is to trace the cables to their origin. The big cable (I believe) will be the main battery ground. I think the small cable will be the negative to the aux battery. The cable end you remove needs to be insulated and stored. It is still connected on the other end to the aux battery. A rubber hose for a cover and some tape are good ideas. Fold the end back and use a couple of cable ties to secure it.

There is a ton of online info. If you looked long enough, you could probably find a photo of the battery arrangement for 2021. The best spot to look is the wrangler forum.

Here is a good place to start: 3.6L ESS Battery Diagram | Jeep Wrangler Forums (JL / JLU) -- Rubicon, 4xe, 392, Sahara, Sport - JLwranglerforums.com

Here is the origin of the battery bypass: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/3-6l-ess-aux-battery-bypass.17293/

Pulled the aux battery, taped up the ends and pulled the F42 fuse. Problem solved. Luckily I have the diesel and it’s super easy to get to the aux battery.

I was just made aware of this thread. I would like to clear up several inaccuracies for those reviewing the earlier part of this thread that deals with SmartStopStart.

First, I am embarrassed by the typos highlighted on my website and have corrected them. I should have had that proofread. Apparently I am a much better electronics engineer than writer.

SmartStopStart has been a paying sponsor of this forum since its inception and of the JL Wrangler forum nearly since its inception.

Second, our product is designed and made in the US and Canada of internationally sourced components. More importantly it is designed to automotive quality standards. It is better quality than the consumer grade electronics typically sold in the electronic automotive aftermarket.

Third our product does it's work over the CANbus, so reliability and stability is critical. Six years of shipping reliable product has proven our design and execution.

Last, it is not reasonably feasible to put a timer behind the ESS-off switch on the Wrangler because the switch is not wired, but an integral part of an electronic module.
